I was surprised that some audience of Inside No.9 didn’t understand what the ending means, because in my country, we have traditional lore that the Sanzu River separates the land of the living & the land of the dead and a dead person will need a coin as the fee for a boat to cross it. So I understood He was dead immediately when Lawrence woke up on the boat and what ‘On the other side’ meant. I suppose it might come here from Greek Myth via Buddhism. Interesting…
(I asked my British friend if he knows about the lore just in case. He said I’d never heard about it. I’ve thought the British have the same story…)
