Friends have said their numbers of likes have gone down. Is that true for you?

Jan. 21, 2022, ️ I posted the exact same photo that I shared Jan 24, 2020 ️ (same “hero” image; different pix in the Carousel). Curiously, the likes & engagement were 40% lower this time — although other metrics suggest a different story.

Some of you know I suck at math & needed 5 tutors to get through my recent college math class, ✖️➕➖➗ but what do you make of this?

SAME HERO IMAGE ️

➡️ 861 likes, 422 comments + 918 views via hashtags reaching 2,401 accounts.

24 JAN. 2020

➡️ 1421 likes, 431 comments + 3 views via hashtags reaching 209 accounts.

To me it looks like a lot more people saw the content this time,  but didn’t like it?  Can a math whiz tell me what this shows? (@webgrrrrl?)

Why is everything here so murky & mysterious? ‍♀️ It’s like IG doesn’t want us to know the rules so they can arbitrarily boot people off,  let others have their accounts hacked & stolen , & others end up in the time-out corner for liking & commenting too frequently.

In a Feb. 9 story by Bryan Adam in the Tech Smart blog mentions 6 popular accounts with upwards of 500k followers that are leaving IG temporarily or permanently because of:

 Pressure for constancy

 Exhaustion

 Frustration

Being at the mercy of IG changes

 Competing with their own success

 Need to balance personal lives

Do you relate? I’m flummoxed, but nowhere near the point of quitting. But I’ve wondered if throttling  likes♥️ is like a stock market correction

Occasionally I publish a sponsored post. But more often I’m here to write ✍️, connect, view ️ & engage  with friends & their content. I still post once a week on Friday,  around midnight PT.  And I have maybe 500 more followers than in 2020.

Do you have any ideas why “likes” for 2 identical photos could be so different?

I’d appreciate your thoughts!
