i just want to make it very clear that this is a radically leftist blog. i’m socially inclusive, yes, but i’m also an advocate of actual leftist policy and government practice. if you’re going to make statements about your social beliefs, you need to make sure that you also advocate/understand the policy that would lead to your end goal being achieved.
you can speak out against transphobia, but how are you actively advocating for trans people beyond your words? what groups are you donating to? what activists are you following? how are you educating yourself? do you know who layshia clarendon is?
learn about caster semenya and the transphobic biological essentialism occurring at the worlds highest level of sports. understand how legal transphobic discrimination is being leveraged against black women disproportionately by the ioc, which trickles down to all levels of athletics.
speak out against transphobia and make your feelings known, but if you’re not trans, what are YOU doing to actually advance the rights and liberties of trans people in sports and beyond? this isn’t about how jamie benn hurt your feelings and disappointed you. this is about how he is actively contributing to the oppression of trans people. you can be upset if you’re cis, but this is honestly not your place to throw a fit bc you can no longer support yet another white man.
this is your time to lift up the voices of trans people and to share the stories of transgender athletes in sports.
since some of you have already reached neoliberal platitudes and empty gestures, here’s some stuff to read:
meet layshia clarendon, the new york liberty’s openly trans player
serena williams has faced transphobia her entire career
caster semenya’s story is about the fight against gender essentialism
team usa’s first openly transgender olympian hopes his story will inspire others
donate to:
- the transgender law center
- the national center for transgender equality
- here’s a list of black-led lgbt groups that fight for trans rights
do better than reblogging a post that says “this is a lgbt safe space.” donate, learn, share about specifically TRANS issues. generic socio-political platitudes are worthless. ACT.

this is not a safe space for Jamie Benn content or any other transphobe, racist, or homophobe. I could give a shit if they’re good at hockey or not, a teams record should NEVER come before human rights and if you EVER try to act like they do please never speak to me. ever. be ashamed of yourself because that’s bullshit.
