No one type of writing is better than the other. Romance is no better or worse than sci-fi adventure. ‘Literary’ books that tell you something big about life aren’t inherently better than pulpy books about some fiery woman getting with a hot Scotsman/Amish dude/vampire. Now, can there be good writing and bad writing? Yes. But the difference between a good piece of writing and a bad piece of writing is skill, not genre.
