Derry Girls episode where like the superintendent or whoever is in charge of how schools are run find out Sister Michael made an exception with James’s admission. They don’t care that James is English, they send him to the all boys school. The Girls, fearing for James’s safety, elect to infiltrate his new school and rescue James.
James’s experience goes one of two ways:
His new schoolmates think he’s amazing for going to an all girls school bc they assume he was popular with the girls since he was the only guy there, OR
James does get bullied for being English, but like David Donnelly provides him protection bc the other lads think David’s cool, so they leave James alone.
Episode ends with the Girls’s shenanigans getting James expelled from the school and sent back to Our Lady.
So, I was just spoiled wrt the latest episode, and… I never thought I’d be in two minds about it.
God knows I’ve been a firm Jerin supporter since the episode where Erin is vehemently against him getting it on with the Ukrainian girl, and then the prom episode happened, which only made my love for the idea of them grow.
Now, with this latest revelation, it just feels inconsistent? I know they’ve been teasing Jerin quite a bit since the beginning of this season, but that was just the framing, and the seating, and letting them wear matching clothes. Which brings me to my point-
There was never any serious kind of hint that James did actually have a crush on Erin all this time? I’d just have liked James to have thrown Erin a longing look, or a secret smile, or something where he catches himself staring, idk SOMETHING.
I’d find more proof for it being the other way around you know. Erin hating the idea of him with the Ukrainian, Erin developing a soft spot once he swoops in to take her to the prom, Erin’s absolutely stricken face when he says he’s going back to England. I honestly thought, after the Spice Girls performance, that we might get an Ainsling/James/Erin triangle.
That said, I’m still here for the ride. I found their two scenes very cute. I’d just have liked a lot more roots to this than what I was given.
