Jaromir Jagr cleared waivers yesterday, which may seem like an anticlimactic ending to such an incredible career, but this beautiful fucker absolutely refused to have it any other way. He wasn’t ever going to choose retiring in a blaze of glory over playing as much hockey as superhumanly possible. And he’s not retired now, either; he’s going to keep playing for HC Kladno in the Czech Republic for as long as they’ll have him, and after that he’ll play for whatever other team will take him, and after that I swear to god he’ll come crash your beer league game.
In honor of the end of his time in the NHL, but certainly in no way the end of his time on the ice, here’s a video I made when I foolishly thought he was about to retire 4 years ago. Now I know better. Dude’s gonna keep playing until he keels over at the red line, and he’ll want it that way.
