A few years ago, I was on the #Disney lot for a free preview of #Tangled (this was about 2010 when Moebius was a guest artist at the #CTNAnimationExpo that year.) Who comes sitting RIGHT next to me? #JeanGiraud aka Moebius. I was literally rubbing elbows with a #SciFi #Comic #Legend! To tell you the truth, I hardly paid attention to the film, I kept sneaking side glances at Moebius enjoying the film and giggling to myself like a little schoolgirl. When the film ended I introduced myself and asked him to sign the only piece of paper I had on me. Another artist’s business card. So he drew on it for me, and autographed it. He complimented the brush pen I had and said, "Goodbye Scott! Good luck!” Lesson learned: always keep your own business cards handy. You never know when you might sit next to a legend some day.“ #RestInPower Moebius!

10 years ago on this day we lost the artist who defined early Heavy Metal more than any other—and also defined Métal Hurlant for that matter—Jean “Moebius” Giraud. Moebius was an extraordinary artist, whose images were always elegant yet never simple. He was truly a visionary, foreseeing not only the appeal of Heavy Metal (he was one of the four “Humanoïdes Associés” who launched Métal Hurlant) but envisioning the look of science fiction we know from Alien, Blade Runner, Tron, The Fifth Element, and more. This piece was used as the wraparound cover art for Moebius Comics #6, published in 1997 by Caliber Comics.
