A year ago, she had been like a lot child, and now she needs to show that she’s done quite a bit of growing up. Somin looks at the camera with a confident smile, her deep rapping tone rolling past her lips, “It don’t matter if you knew who I was before, I was just another eye sore.” She gestures with her hands as she raps, following the flow she’s created for her introduction. “I’m 23 and growing, soon I’m be under the lights and glowing. I’m Jeon Somin, I’m happy in my own skin. Dance is my first love, so don’t think I’m worried when push comes to shove.”

• • •   Her expression softens, like she’s recalling something at the thought of the question. What were her aspirations? “Once upon a time, I wanted to be the best dancer there was. At the time, I didn’t know what it was like to become an idol, as long as I was on stage dancing. But after I left my agency, I had to think about what it was that drew me to the stage. Was I really going to keep being satisfied by being a dancer and being someone’s back-up dancer? I think it was realizing how much I loved being on the stage, and sharing my love for music with the audience that makes me want to return to the stage so I can become an idol.”

They made me who I am today and I can tell you that I won’t ever, ever disappoint you.” She bit on her bottom lip and winked, a soft giggle as she clasped her hands together, “I’m looking forward to getting to know you all. → “Aspirations, this has been a dream. I’ve never really planned anything long term before. I’m only eighteen. I didn’t have a father so I had to work early and the only goal I had was to go to college. I’m in my first year and I’ve been so into the music industry. Aside from money, I just want to be recognized and acknowledged in another light. I’m not a dumb girl, I’m just a free spirit and labeled and judged. I just want to stand out and show them that this is what happens when you chase after your dreams and not let go despite all the negativity. I just want to be influential and I want to live comfortably.” She was quiet for some moments, as if to internalize her own words and she looked at the camera and smiled. “I want to be famous.”
