In honor of Taiwan legalizing same-sex marriage, here’s Jolin Tsai’s “We’re all different, yet the same” MV, which follows a lesbian couple. The MV became a big topic of interest and discussion when it came out in 2014, as many found it touching and this was one of the few times a pop star of Jolin Tsai’s caliber (she’s incredibly famous in Taiwan/China/HK) produced something so outspokenly supportive of LGBT rights, even starring in the video herself as one of the women (the other woman is also a famous actress, Ruby Lin).
The MV shows an old lesbian couple. When one of them is hospitalized, the other is saddened by her inability to say what their true relationship is, as well as the hospital not seeing her as a family member, thus denying her the medical decision making privileges family members get. Near the end, she dreams of their younger selves getting married.
