So it’s pretty explicitly confirmed at this point that Sasha and Marcy are both toxic friends, but I think it’s interesting how this is portrayed in very different ways for each of them and I feel like talking about it! Because Amphibia is very good at showing how toxicity can manifest itself differently for different people.
Felt like reblogging this here just so I can have most of my amphibia stuff in one place, but also because I’ve been THINKING again and I have more stuff to add:

(Also a lot of this might become redundant after season 3. who knows. why am I doing this now–)
- Basically I’m not super happy with the way I analysed Sasha’s character because I sort of have a different opinion on her now?
In the og post I talked a lot about how Sasha’s intentions are more unclear/morally grey than the other two, BUT now the more that I think about it the more I think she. Kind of does have her friends best interests at heart??? She just goes about it completely the wrong way in how controlling she is (though I think SHE thinks she’s doing what’s best for them, so she does kind of justify it to herself. Like I talked about how Sasha seems to know what she’s doing is wrong and I think throughout the show she is gradually coming to that conclusion (esp in Reunion and TC) but I think to a degree she also probably thinks what she’s doing is what’s best for her friends.)
Cause I mean Anne’s overprotectiveness of Marcy and her struggle to accept she has changed at first is. Exactly the same way Sasha seems to feel about both of them. And I do think she cares about her friends even if she hurts them so…..SASHA REDEMPTION SEASON THREE LET’S GOOOO (basically confirmed at this point but still exciting)
- Also another thing I’ve been thinking about ever since I rewatched Reunion Is The Fact That Sasha has a pool. Obviously keeping and maintaining a pool is really expensive so it’s likely Sasha’s family are fairly well off, which makes me think whatever her family situation is she definitely gives off the vibe of a kid whose emotional needs Have Probably Been Neglected even if she can afford material goods and stuff.
Though her being a control freak esp to do with her relationships is generally (I think) associated with people who had to deal with a lot of change or stressful situations out of their control growing up? So really who knows.
(And the thing that was recently said about some families having “moved on” while their kid was missing LMAO. I already have a small suspicion that the show could end with the trio splitting up (albeit on good terms) and if Marcy’s family went through with the move while their daughter was MISSING it’s kind of? Inevitable? That they will be split up? But ofc this could apply to Sasha’s family too. Probably not Anne tho lmao.) Also I just don’t generally like theorising about the end of the show because there’s so many ways things could go and it hurts my head so I just don’t worry about it.
- Ok the last thing I wanted to talk about was that I probably let Anne off too easy in the original post and I genuinely do wonder what she contributed to the soup of toxicity that was their friendship before Amphibia. Even though she was the main one being manipulated by Sasha and everything it’s not really fair to say she is entirely free of blame as especially early in season 1 you can tell she is Very Influenced by Sasha’s behaviour and yeah. There was really no point to this section I just wanted to mention it lol.
