PRAGUE   Travel diary - Day 2

Today, we walk in the old town and discover the incredible Czech marionettes world. In some of these gallery/shop, you can discover a hundreds puppets made by local artists like in a museum.
*
In a street, we find an old wooden sculpture that probably used to be a marionette theatre front sculpture. It’s a little bit creepy, we love it and decide to draw it on the opening page of our sketchbook.
*
It’s time to meet @mattjabbar and@tekumushi who just arrived in Prague! Mateusz and Kana are both great artists and we are so happy to spend a week drawing watercolor sketches together in Prague!
*
@mattjabbar is a master of painting watercolor backgrounds. He worked for Makoto Shinkai (Your Name) and now, he’s making his own animation films (he created the short commercial animation about the shôgi player Karolina Styczunska : https://youtu.be/2ZtfwRlTpHA) and recently published a beautiful book of watercolor Tokyo Storefronts ( https://mateuszurbanowicz.com/works/tokyo_storefronts_book/).
*
@tekumushi, his wife, draws very lively and refreshing comics. Her characters are warm and touching. She made this incredible Inktober black and white comics series about everyday stories in Edo period ( http://kanaurbanowicz.com/inktober-2017) and a colored series picturing the warm and fuzzy daily life of a Polish - Japanese couple of artists in Tokyo, Ippun Nipun, that can be read for free in English ( https://tapas.io/series/1-pun-2-pun#_=_)
*
Before starting to sketch, we’re having dinner in a cute canteen restaurant kind of managed by a grandma team (Havelská Koruna). The food is good. This is our second goulash!
*
No time to waste: we start our first sketch together! No need for a long walk, you can sit anywhere: everything is interesting to draw in Prague.
While we draw, we make breaks to observe each other’s work. It’s very interesting to see our differents techniques and notice we don’t see the same thing even if the subject is he same.
