Steve flew the stolen quinjet out of Germany and toward the frozen tundra of Siberia. Of all the times Bucky had planned going back, he had never assumed Steve would be the one to accompany him and Maggie.
But with the threat of Zemo escaped from Berlin and still in possession of the Winter Soldier handbook, Bucky was glad for the extra help.
Zemo may have claimed he was hellbent on destroying the uncontrollable super soldiers housed in Siberia but Bucky couldn’t be sure of it. And though he had not told Zemo where they were, he recalled that it wasn’t exactly difficult in finding the facility with resources Zemo had. He had found Bucky after all.
“I just want to make sure,” Bucky had stressed to Steve earlier that morning in the hotel room. “We’re so close.”
“I’m going with you,” Steve said. “But we have to get a plane with stealth and it’s at Leipzig. We’re gonna have to settle this with Tony first.”
Steve’s eyes had gone to Maggie and Bucky reached out to touch her arm in assurance. “I’m not leaving her behind,” Bucky told Steve.
As he walked in the darkness, he remembered the first night he’d stepped into the cottage only to find broken glass all over the foyer floor after the late sheriff’s visit to her. Odette had been crying in the shower.
Oh, god, he thought. If she was reduced to that again because of him, he’d never forgive himself.
Jefferson started running now, anxious to get to her.
He tried the doorknob as multiple horrible scenarios played across his mind. What if she tried to shoot him? A manic laugh bubbled up in his throat, thankful for a moment that he hadn’t had the time to show her how to shoot. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t shoot him. Would she be that angry at him? Damn Olivia Rothbart for putting them in this hell!
The door opened and Jefferson stepped inside, all the worry and horror over this nightmare showing on his face as he walked in, looking for Odette, his fiancé and the love of his life.
