She Was Pretty (not the most ‘woke’ title) or Kanojo Wa Kirei Datta, is a Japanese adaptation of a Korean series that has a somewhat familiar premise and some classic romcom tropes, but it’s still interesting enough to keep it fresh. I loved Fuka Koshiba from Netflix’s Tuna Girl (another cute movie) and Gourmet Detective (another cute series), and she has great chemistry with Kento Nakajima and the rest of the cast. So if you wanna jump in to Japanese series without starting off too dark/heavy, this is a kawaii, light, and bright series that’ll keep you pretty entertained. I also watched the Korean one, which had some additional cute story elements due to Korean series typically running a few episodes longer per season than Japanese ones (16 vs 10 episodes, usually), but I personally prefer the vibe and pacing of the Japanese one. The Korean one is slightly too long for me and the pacing was too slow in some parts, plus I’m not generally a fan of the cheesy music they used haha but I also wish the Japanese one had 2-3 more episodes :)) Either way, watching both was entertaining enough.
