It’s a hot summer day. The kind of day where the humidity was too much and you felt all the energy you could’ve had for the day is drained. Kyo had woken up in a sweat from the heat that had resigned in his bedroom.
He had taken a shower to help cool himself off. Afterward, he heads downstairs to see Tohru slicing up a watermelon. She turns at the sound of his arrival, smiling happily at him.
“Good Morning, Kyo-kun!”
He smiles back, feeling a heat nothing to do with the weather filling his face. “Good Morning, Tohru..”
She looked so cute. Her hair was styled in pigtails, she’s wearing a pink shirt and blue skirt with a light blue apron over her clothes. Her cheeks are slightly flushed, probably from the heat, he assumes.
“Would you like some watermelon?” She wonders, picking up the plate and holding it out to him.
“Yeah, thanks.” He takes a piece. “Let’s sit outside, we can bring a fan.”
“Okay!” Tohru beams as she went to get a fan. Kyo watches her with a smile, taking a bite of watermelon.
The humidity is as much as he excepted, thinking he will likely need to take another shower very soon. For now, he turns to Tohru, fan in hand, directing broad sweeps of air toward her. She had a piece of watermelon in her hand, giggling as the breeze he was attempting to make gently blew her pigtails back.
“Thank you, Kyo-kun!” She smiles at him when he lowers his arm, turning the fan back to his own flushed skin.
“Tohru..” Kyo begins, feeling his face flushing again.
“You okay, Kyo-kun?” Tohru asks in worry.
“I-I’m fine.. I wanted to tell you something.”
“Yes?” Tohru places her hand on the wood beneath her, eyes gleaming with curiosity.
“You look.. cute today.”
“I-I do?” Tohru blushes now, slightly taken aback. It wasn’t often that Kyo would openly give her sweet compliments. Not that he never did, but he was so shy with them.
Kyo turns his face away, nodding.
Tohru scoots the plate of watermelon from where it sat between them, moving closer to Kyo until her knee bumped against his.
He looks at her again, a shy smile on his lips. He looks so handsome. It brought her so much joy to see him smiling and happy. The last three years had been filled with so much pain.
They gaze into each other’s eyes, Kyo finding himself leaning in closer as Tohru moves in too. Their lips gently touch and he can taste the watermelon she just ate on her lips. Their lips separate for only a second as they fall back into another kiss, Kyo gently guiding Tohru to lay down upon the wooden floor.
Kyo pulls his lips away for a second time, nuzzling his nose into the crook of Tohru’s neck. “How about we take this inside?”
Tohru’s heart thumps in her chest as she reaches up to thread her fingers into the softness of Kyo’s hair. “But first, kiss me again…”
