Mexican High School Students Perform Son Jarocho Classic “La Bamba”

High school students from Lerdo de Tejada, Veracruz, are being celebrated for promoting the traditional music of their home state, Son Jarocho.

Students at CBTis 77, a technical-professional based prepa, were encouraged to bring their jaranas and come prepared to dance as part of a school-wide gathering last Friday, and many did!

Photos and videos of the fandango have since been widely shared on social media, with many lauding the students’ musical talents.

Son Jarocho is the traditional music of Veracruz, but is also played in Oaxaca, Tabasco and Tamaulipas, with a growing presence throughout Mexico and Mexican communities in the US.

Fandango is a community gathering or party where Son Jarocho is played and danced to.
