We’re starting our readalong in 1805 with everyone’s favorite character, Bruneseau!
Trying to put together the Les Mis version of Drac Daily’s “ chapters by chronology” , and @melannen made me realize: the LAST chapters are going to be Hugo’s visit to Waterloo in 1861
so: 18 years from the first chapter, Rain Blots Out JVJ’s grave
and then FIFTEEN YEARS after that, there’s the 1848 digression
and then . THIRTEEN YEARS LATER.
A traveler goes to Waterloo. For a couple of chapters delivered all on the same day. And the very last line of this multi-decade project would be:“and all this so that a peasant can say to-day to the traveller: Monsieur, give me three francs, and if you like, I will explain to you the affair of Waterloo!”
