#let them build the emotions

I think it’s hilarious when I see people complaining that the Obi-Wan vs Vader fight in Part III wasn’t epic. Like fellas, hear me out, but what if you took a step back and looked past your desire for a Cool Lightsaber Fight? Then you’d be able to see that, narratively, this isn’t the last these two will confront each other in this series.

The Obi-Wan on screen right now has only just opened himself up to the Force again after a decade and is literally still coming to terms with the fact that Anakin is alive. He’s not in any headspace to confront Vader, at all. Obviously he was gonna be running away. Vader is clearly more powerful at the moment and the only reason Obi-Wan even showed himself was because Vader was murdering people to draw him out. All Obi-Wan wanted when he stepped out of the safehouse was to ensure Leia got away and to take Vader’s attention off the innocent townspeople. He didn’t step out there itching for a fight.

Even Vader can tell that Obi-Wan isn’t in the frame of mind for a showdown yet. He let Obi-Wan escape. You hear that guys? Anakin Skywalker wants an epic fight too! But at least he has the patience (ha!) to wait till Obi-Wan is more himselfagain.
