Chapter 6:

They say that the happiest day in a woman’s life is her wedding day.

Pieck was not one of them. She was not happy. In fact, she was furious at Zeke. If Pieck were to be honest, she would rather go back to when the Princess first visited so she could be a prawn again. To her, it was more ideal than this.

She gracefully walked down the aisle towards her fiance with a fake smile on her face. Her eyes scanned the crowd. On one side was the King, who had a proud smile on his face, Mikasa, who was glaring at Pieck since they met (not that Pieck blamed her), and finally Mike, Levi’s personal guard and close friend. On the other side was Zeke. He blended in with the humans with the crisp black tux he wore, but Pieck knew what he was really thinking. She was nothing more than a chess piece in his plan.

She stopped walking when she made it up to the altar and took Levi’s hand. Then things got boring when the priest began to speak.

“We are all gathered here today to celebrate the marriage between Prince Levi Ackerman and Lady Pieck Galliard.”

Pieck frowned at the last name. It might be a hilarious joke to Zeke but not to her. Was it too late to stab Zeke or could she stop the wedding to do it now?

She took the time to briefly glance over at her husband-to-be. Who knew what the man was thinking behind his robotic stare and stance?

Poor guy. Pieck thought pitifully. She briefly glanced over at the setting sun over the ocean. Any normal person would stop to appreciate the beautiful scenery but not Pieck. She knew that what would occur would be anything but beautiful.

“And now I will recite something to bless this union”

“Can we just get straight to the kiss?” Levi interrupted with a slightly irritated voice.

Pieck wanted to roll her eyes as Levi’s uncle howled with laughter from behind them.

“Of course, your Majesty.” The priest said with a chuckle. “Do you-”

Caw

A bird called out. The priest briefly stopped before continuing.

“As I was saying-”

CAW CAW

Multiple birds called out and it sounded closer this time.

“What is that?!” A woman yells and everyone turns to the source. Everyone turned to see a massive black blob coming closer as each second passed. Zeke, in the crowd, squints to get a closer look.

“Birds?” He muttered unaware of Eren’s plan.

“We attack when we get close to the boat! Do not attack the drunk uncle, the stoic prince, and the pretty princess!” Eren yelled to his team before diving down.

“ATTACK!” Eren yelled and hit the nearest human, which happened to be Zeke.

“Get off of me you stupid bird!“ Zeke yelled as he attempted to grab Eren.

In the midst of the chaos, Pieck grabbed the shell necklace out of her neck and threw it on the ground. She immediately jumped overboard as a glowing gold orb began to float in the air.

Ahh ah ahhhh. ah ahh ahhhhh.

Hange’s voice floated in the air until it found its owner. Hange beamed with excitement for finally regaining her voice. Meanwhile, Levi was free from the spell and his eyes returned to normal.

"What happened?” Levi groaned and rubbed his head. He looked around his surroundings when he noticed a bright orb floating towards Hange.

“Hange?” Levi asked and walked closer to Hange.

“Levi, it’s me.” She replied breathlessly, a huge grin illuminated her face.

Levi’s mind went blank, but he knew what he needed to do next.

Hange. He repeated and ran towards Hange to hug her. “You’re here. You’re actually here.” He said lovingly, unaware of Mikasa and Mike smiling in the background.

“What the heck is going on?” Kenny thought aloud.

“Levi.” Hange’s face became serious. Her eyes briefly glanced at the setting sun. “I need you to kiss me right now."

Levi looked at her with confusion . "Why?”

“Goddammit, Levi just do it. I’ll explain everything later.”

Levi smirked. “You don’t have to tell me twice."  He replied and leaned up to kiss Hange.

"No!” Zeke yelled, interrupting the couple. He raised his arm towards them, summoning some water to separate Levi from Hange and throwing him into the sea.

“Levi!” Hange yelled as she tried to catch him but it was too late. She screamed as Zeke tackled her to the ground.

“It’s too late, Princess.” Zeke laughed as he held the struggling Hange. “You’re coming back with me."

"No,” Hange said with a strained voice. She felt fear the longer Zeke held her and Levi stayed in the water.

“Not so fast.” A new voice joined in. Hange gasped with happiness and relief.

“Well, well. I didn’t know that you invited the whole family.” Zeke said mockingly, briefly glancing at the King. He still continued to hold Hange.

“Let go of my sister,” Erwin demanded with a stern face. Hange noticed the tight grip he had on his gold trident and she felt her eyes water. On a normal day, Hange would stop to hug her brother and apologize for everything, but there was no time for that now. They had a bigger problem on their hands.

“You and what army?” Zeke’s eyes flickered to behind Erwin where the empty sea lay. “You’re alone.”

“I don’t think so.” a female voice interrupted and Hange almost squealed with joy. Hange had no idea what happened next. One minute, she was being carried off into the sea by her sister.

“Lynne!” Hange exclaimed after they went up for air. Lynne smiled. “Hey, Hange. It has been a while.”

“Don’t forget about us!” Ilse and Petra called out from behind. Hange swam over and immediately pulled the three in for a hug.

“I have missed you all so much. How did you find me? Where are the others?”

Ilse spoke first. “Armin told us what’s going on. Nanaba and Rico are helping Erwin out.” Zeke screamed as if on cue. They watched as Nanaba briefly held the trident up and pointed it to the sky. It began to turn dark and the sisters felt the rain splash on their skin. “As you can see,” she added as Nanaba threw the trident back to Erwin.

Hange searched around with panic in her eyes. “Where’s Nifa?”

“Right here.” She called out. Hange noticed that Nifa was not alone. Her sister was carrying a dark but familiar figure. “Guess who I found swimming alone in the ocean,” Nifa chuckled.

“Levi!” Hange called out and swam towards the duo. “How did you survive?” She asked as she checked him for any injuries.

“Mermaids.” He said with a dazed look. “They really exist…”

Nifa giggled. “You would not believe his reaction when he saw I saved him earlier. The human thought that he actually died.”

Hange wanted to laugh along with her, but they were on a tight schedule. The rain clouds might be covering the sky, but Hange knew that time was ticking before the sun went down. She did the best thing she could think of to snap Levi out of his daze.

She slapped him.

Hard.

“Ow!” Levi yelled while holding onto his injured cheek. “What was that for, Hange?”

Hange rolled her eyes. “I need you to still kiss me before the sun sets.”

Levi blushed red. “R-right.” He stammered and pulled Hange close, both of them treading the water to stay afloat. Meanwhile, Hange’s sisters swam off a bit to give them some privacy. Levi closed his eyes and leaned close. Their lips had just grazed each other before they were interrupted by Hange being pulled down by Reiner and Bertolt. A bright light began to glow underwater.

“What the?” Levi started.

“No!” Hange’s sisters screamed with horror but it was too late. Hange was gone and the sun had already set.

Zeke laughed maniacally from above. "It is too late! You are all too late!” Zeke’s body was surrounded by a mist that grew bigger and bigger. The mist dispelled to reveal Zeke’s true octopus form. He jumped off the boat to the ocean with Erwin following from behind. One of his tentacles knocked the side of the boat, causing some of the people to fall into the water, and the boat began to sink.

Levi began to scream, but no voice came out. It was his birthday all over again, except he was going to lose everyone he loved.

"Don’t worry, human.” A mature voice called from behind him. Levi turned around to see a tall mermaid with a blonde undercut, and a short mermaid with short platinum blonde hair. “My sisters and I will take care of the humans.” Nanaba nodded to her sisters to go help but noticed when Rico didn’t move. “You need to get to Hange. There is a possibility that Erwin will need your help"

"How would I do that? I can’t swim that far without drowning.”

“I think I can help you out there.” A new voice joined in and Rico frowned.

(Levi began to wonder if someone new was going to join in)

He turned to the newcomer. “Who are you?” He asked with confusion.

Pieck rolled her eyes. She ignored Levi and turned to Nanaba. “You guys can go ahead and I’ll handle the Prince.”

“Funny to see you again after so long. Why should we trust you, Pieck Finger? I know that you work for Zeke.” Rico spoke up with narrowed eyes.

Pieck sighed. “Used to. I quit a few minutes ago when I snuck into his lair to steal this seaweed.” She held up said item for everyone to see and turned to Levi. “This is a special seaweed enchanted by Zeke. This will help you breathe underwater for three hours.”

Levi reached out to grab the item but was stopped when Rico intervened by pulling out a hidden knife and holding it against Pieck’s neck.

“Rico!” Nanaba lectured but Rico chose to not listen.

“Why should we trust you? That could be poisoned.”

Pieck sighed. “You could question that for as long as you want, but right now, the humans and your sister are in trouble.” She pointed towards the sinking ship and to the ocean for emphasis. “But now is not the time to argue. You are going to need my help though. Out of us four, I know Zeke the most.”

Rico studied her for a minute before pulling away and pocketing her knife. “Fine but I will not hesitate to slit your throat if something happens to my family or the human.”

“Fine by me,” Pieck replied. Nanaba grabbed Rico’s hand and dragged her away, leaving Pieck and Levi alone. She turned to Levi while holding out the seaweed.

“You are going to need this.”

Levi was amazed by Hange’s world. He was surrounded by many colorful fish and corals. He wished that he could stop to admire the view, but he was on a time limit now.

“Zeke’s lair is up ahead,” Pieck said and Levi looked to see where she was referring to. It was not actually hard to figure out where it was because it was surrounded by dust and light beams, indicating a fight occurring.

“We are going to have to be sneaky about going in. There is a bottle of stonefish venom that will be enough to kill Zeke.“ She held out the bottle for him to see. "We just have to figure out how to put it in his bottle first,” she finished and handed Levi the bottle.

“So he has to ingest it?” Levi asked with a hint of surprise that he could talk underwater.

Pieck nodded. “Bingo.”

It was quiet between the two, but there was an unspoken (and awkward) tension lingering, Levi decided then it was time to address the elephant in the room.

“Why are you helping us? Hange’s sister mentioned that you used to work for Zeke. Why did you switch sides?”

Pieck sighed before answering. “I was like Hange a few years ago, a woman in love. His name was Porco. We were childhood friends, but we wanted to change that. We both went to Zeke to make our wishes come true. It worked for the most part, but we did not meet our condition . Zeke changed us into polyps, but he is a sadistic guy….” She hesitated to keep going.

“Where is Porco now?” Levi carefully asked.

“Gone. That’s all you need to know. Zeke kept me alive to be a puppet. I would rather have stayed as a polyp or joined Pock instead, but I know that he would find a way to throw me back and tell me to live my life.”

The two continued swimming until they stopped at a boulder near the lair. Levi noticed Pieck’s frown as they observed when was the best time to move in.

“What’s wrong?”

“Something’s not right. It is too quiet.”

Levi looked at her confused. “What do you mean? That bearded bastard and the King are being the loud ones right now.” He added while pointing to the struggle occurring.

“Yes, but someone is missing.”

“Well, well, well. It seems like Pieck finally decided to visit.” Pieck cursed under her breath and Levi glanced at Pieck with confusion.

“Reiner. Bertolt.” Pieck said curtly and turned to greet the newcomers.

“I always knew something was up with you.” Reiner started as he and Bertolt circled around the two. “First, you steal from Zeke, then you bring the human along. What’s next?” Reiner said with a shrug.

“We are going to split up on my signal,” Pieck whispered, quietly enough for Levi to hear while maintaining eye contact with Reiner and Bertolt. The two started getting closer and closer with every second.

“Where would we go? We don’t have any weapons and the only person with a weapon is fighting the octopus bastard.”

Pieck’s lips curled up slightly in a smirk. “Trust me. Just go in the opposite direction.”

“Okay.”

“Do you have any last words?” Reiner asked after he and Bertolt cornered them.

“Yeah, I do. Run!” Pieck yelled and ran to her left. Levi nodded and swam to the right.

“I got the human, you get Pieck.” Bertolt directed to Reiner before they split up.

He realized that he was at a major disadvantage right now. He did not have a tail like Pieck, so he was not as fast as her, and he was not familiar with the sea. The only options were to swim around and eventually get lost, or somehow lose Bertoldt in the chaos.

“Over here!” A merman with a green tail waved Levi over.

Levi hesitantly made his way over to the merman, unsure if he should trust him or not.

“I’m one of Hange’s friends, Moblit,” Moblit stated as he beckoned Levi over. He immediately grabbed Levi when he was within arm’s reach and swam away as fast as he could. “I saw Hange get taken away, but what are you doing here?"

"That other mermaid, Pieck, helped me.”

Mobil’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. “I see.” He then continued to drag Levi around until they were near an old shipwreck. “This is the best place to lose Bertolt. Trust me.” He said and stopped in front of the ship.

Levi looked at Moblit with confusion. “Aren’t we going to hide?”

Moblit shook his head. “No. Trust me on this.”

The duo watched as Bertolt’s figure came closer. That was when Moblit started yelling.

“What are you doing? Are you trying to get us killed?” Levi hissed and Moblit chuckled.

“Hopefully not.”

Levi raised an eyebrow just as Bertolt prepared to attack. He was ready for the pain and closed his eyes.

Until nothing happened.

“What the?” Levi opened his eyes to see Bertolt being chased by two big great white sharks.  Moblit sighed out of relief.

“C’mon.” Moblit urged as he pulled Levi’s arm. “We don’t want to be shark bait.”

There was not a trace of Bertolt left after that.

“Hand over my sister or else,” Erwin demanded as he held up his glowing trident, ready to attack.

“Or else what?” Zeke asked as he swam towards Hange. Hange, who was tied down and gagged, could only let out muffled screams. “Your sister was the one who signed the contract. She agreed to the terms and conditions, and as you can see, she did not follow through.”

Zeke used one tentacle to grab Hange’s chin and bring her close to him. His hand began to glow an eerie green color. “I think that she will love it here. She will be away from her uptight brother and who knows? She could even be my wife.” Zeke added with a smirk.

“You bastard!” Erwin screamed and let out a warning shot near Zeke.

“Look at you being so pathetic. What a king you are.” He said and pointed another glowing tentacle out to Erwin.

“Now die.”

Unknowingly to the both of them, another person decided to join in.

Pieck threw Reiner’s body in front of Erwin, and it was too late for Zeke to stop it. Reiner turned into a pile of dust.

“No!” Zeke screamed out in agony before turning his anger out to Pieck. “I’m going to kill you!”

He began to lunge at her but was stopped by Erwin firing a shot at his chest. Zeke began to cough up some blood.

“Your business is with me, not her.” He said and stood protectively in front of Pieck. “Now hand over my sister.”

“You want your sister?” Zeke scoffed as he wiped out the blood on his lips. “Then give me the trident in exchange. It’s a fair trade.”

“No!” Levi yelled out. He and Moblit had finally caught up with everyone else.

“The human?!” Erwin and Zeke said at the same time.

“Your Majesty, Hange is worth more than the trident. You should not trade it for her.”

Zeke rolled his eyes. “I knew that I should have killed you earlier. You stupid humans going on and on about worth.”

Erwin turned to Levi with a stern look. “That is true but Zeke is persistent. I could risk  Hange getting hurt if I don’t do it.” He then turned to Zeke. “Fine. I will do it.” He said and held the trident out for Zeke.

Zeke greedily grabbed it and began to laugh victoriously. “Yes! It is mine! All mine!”

The binds that held Hange disappear into dust. “Erwin! What did you do?” She asked her brother who stood there stoically. She had expected an answer, not for him to throw a small vial into Zeke’s mouth.

Zeke stopped laughing to take out the vial but was stopped by Pieck jumping at him from behind. She covered his nose and mouth, effectively causing Zeke to swallow it. Zeke started to cough and he dropped the trident in the midst of it.

“What? What did you do to me?” Zeke asked and Erwin smirked.

“The trident only works for people with royal blood. Something that you don’t have.”

Zeke’s eyes turned red and his body began to pale. He started thrashing around until there was no life left in him.

“We did it.” Erwin said breathlessly. He swam towards Zeke’s body and towards his sister to free her.

“Erwin, you’re okay.” Hange hugged her brother and began to cry. “I was so scared.”

“Shhhh,” Erwin said and rubbed Hange’s back. “You’re okay, Everyone is okay.”

“Not everyone,” Pieck spoke up and the siblings looked at her with confusion. She pointed at the entrance of the lair where the polyps whined with agony. “Those things there are actually merpeople. You should do the honors, you Highness.” She addressed Erwin.

Erwin let go of Hange and picked up his trident. A bright light appeared at the end and a golden beam hit the polyps. One by one, they began to turn into regular merpeople.

“Moblit, help these people get back to Eldia. I’m sure it has been a while since they got to stretch their tails.”

Moblit nodded and led everyone out of the cave, finally free from their imprisonment.

“Woww,” Levi said with awe before getting engulfed in a hug by Hange.

“I missed you, Shorty.”

Levi rolled his eyes and hugged Hange back anyway. “Tch. I missed you too.”

Meanwhile, Erwin and Pieck smiled at the couple.

“So what will you do? Are you planning on going back to Eldia too?” Erwin asked Pieck.

Pieck shook her head. “I don’t. I know some people do not like me being around given my history.”

“You could always stay at the castle. My sisters and I will make sure that you are safe.”

Pieck raised an eyebrow. “Is this your way to make me stay and then eventually become your queen?” She asked with a teasing tone.

Erwin blushed red. “N-no! I was just trying to help you. None of that other stuff.”

“I’m kidding.” Pieck giggled. “But I am serious about staying.” She eyed the couple and saw herself with Porco. What could have been had it not been for Zeke. “Someone told me to live my life and I am going to follow that.”

—-

Hange watched Levi from her rock. The supposed seaweed Levi consumed had finally run out of time, and being in the ocean pressure for a long time had caught up to him. She smiled sadly as Mikasa, Kenny, and Mike ran up to him and cried with relief. Little did she know of another pair of eyes watching her.

“She really loves the humans now, does she?” Erwin said to Armin.

Armin smiled from atop of Erwin’s shoulder. He started reminiscing of the memories in the human world. “Yeah, she does. Her eyes lit up like the first sunrise of a day or a shining pearl.”

Erwin sighed and looked at his sister with sad eyes. Hange is not a child anymore. She will always be his little sister, but she is old enough to make her own decisions. “I’m really going to miss her.”

“Yeah, I-” Armin stopped and looked at Erwin with shock. “What do you mean?”

“It is time to let her go.” Erwin dragged his trident across the water. The water glowed a light blue and headed towards Hange’s direction.

Hange was too focused to see it until she noticed the blue light around her. She recognized that magic anywhere and she shed a tear.

“Thank you, Erwin.” She whispered before being enveloped by the light.

“Levi!” Mikasa exclaimed before enveloping her brother into a suffocating hug. “You’re okay.”

Levi felt the tears in his eyes and returned the hug. He noticed a few more figures heading his way.

“Kenny? Mike? Is that the castle staff too?”

Mikasa chuckled and pulled away from her brother. “You had the whole castle worried about you.”

“I thought you died!” Kenny exclaimed after he caught up with the duo. “Do you know how worried I was? I didn’t want to lose you after losing Kuchel.”

Levi realized someone was missing after Kenny’s statement. He turned to Mikasa with hopeful eyes. “Is Hange here?”

Mikasa looked away with downdraught eyes. Even Kenny avoided Levi’s stare because of how awkward the situation was.

Luckily for them, Mike was there. “We haven’t seen you here since the attack. It was like she disappeared.”

“Oh.’ Levi said dejectedly.

“Don’t be so down now. Her kingdom is probably not too far. Besides, what are the chances of her magically showing up right now anyway?”

“Highly unlikely,” Levi replied with a depressed tone. There was his one chance to finally be with someone he wanted and now she was gone without a trace.

Meanwhile, the rest of the castle staff noticed a bright light in the ocean. They saw the figure of a familiar woman heading their way and they gasped with awe.

“Oh.“ One of the maids, Ymir, started.

“My.” Another maid, Sasha, said with her jaw open from shock.

“Gosh.” A third maid, Hitch, finished.

A third maid, Historia, started to jump with glee and ran to the royal family. “Your Highness! Your Highness! I see Lady Hange heading this way!”

“Where?” Levi jumped up but stumbled a bit due to his imbalance.

“Whoa be careful kiddo. I don’t think she is going anywhere.” Kenny joked while Mikasa and Mike laughed.

Normally, Levi would tell them to shut up, but he did not care. He needed to see Hange. And that’s what he did, a man in love, ran across the beach to meet his woman. Levi ignored the cheers coming from his family and the castle staff because his eyes were only focused on Hange. To him, she looked stunning in her sparkly sea blue dress. Like a goddess rising from the sea.

Who knew that the stories his mom would tell him before would actually be true? That there was an underwater kingdom filled with merfolk. Levi didn’t. Yet, he knew that there will be a day when he will get down on one knee and propose to one of the kingdom’s princesses. It was funny how life worked that way.

Levi stopped when the ocean water hit his calves so he could pick up Hange and twirl her. She smelled like saltwater and her laugh was like music to his ears. Levi pulled her close so their foreheads touched.

“Welcome home.” He whispered and Hange smiled the radiant smile Levi loved.

He finally kissed her.

An Indirect Confession

A/N: This was submitted for the @levihan-drabbles fanfic contest. Enjoy! Also I have not read the HP books in so long so forgive me if I mess up with the worldbuilding.

The Yule Ball was a formal dance held during the Triwizard Tournament. It was held on Christmas night, a night for wizards and witches from the three attending schools to dress up, eat, and dance until their heart’s content.

All the students were dancing except for Levi Ackerman. He had danced many times already and took a break at the Astronomy tower.

Levi stared at the twinkling stars from his spot. To him, the night sky was truly beautiful, peaceful even. It reminded him of the nights when his mother would talk about the constellations to him and his sister, Mikasa. The tower was his place where the wizard could hide when he wanted to get away from the crowd.

Levi closed his eyes to fully take in the serenity of the night. Levi could see the full moon’s reflection on the Black Lake, and the trees surrounding it swayed a bit from the wind. If Levi could, he would stay at the tower forever. He already had his hands full from being the Hufflepuff Quidditch captain.

A minor scuffle and a quiet “shit” broke Levi out of his trance. Levi instinctively took out his wand from his robes, ready to attack the intruder if necessary.

“Who’s there?”

“It’s me, Hange. You know? The amazing Ravenclaw prefect? Your date to the ball.” she called out teasingly.

Levi slowly put his wand away, a look of regret evident. “I’m sorry about that. I was getting a little bit overwhelmed by the festivities.”

Hange walked over to Levi and gave him a sympathetic smile. “I don’t blame you, but you owe me for leaving me behind,” she plopped herself down on Levi’s old spot.

“Do you want another dance or something?” Levi asked while wrinkling his nose at the thought of dancing again. Poor boy has never been the best dancer, and it showed when he and Hange were on the dancefloor.

Hange snorted and patted the spot next to her. “Oh, I would never ask you to do that. We had already danced enough times today, and I noticed that you were getting tired of it. I know balls are not your thing anyway, so I just want to sit together with you instead.”

Levi sat down and joined Hange in staring at the stars. “So-” he began without taking his eyes off the sky. “Where is your brother anyway? I’m surprised that he had not tried to sniff you out when you left.”

Hange let out a slight hum in thought before smiling mischievously. “I may or may not have told Mike that one of the Beauxbatons girls wanted to be his date. The rest was a slice of cake.”

Levi turned to her with a raised eyebrow. “Is it the one who is part Veela*? Her name is Nanaba, right?”

Hange turned to face Levi with bright eyes. “Bingo.” she laughed until she realized that Levi was staring at her with a slight smile on his face. She blushed bright red. “So, where are your friends? I thought that they would be looking for you too. With you being the infamous, grumpy Hufflepuff and all.” she joked in an attempt to not focus on Levi’s face.

“Isabel and Furlan are busy stuffing their mouths with food. Everyone else is too busy dancing.” Levi said while rolling his eyes at the grumpy Hufflepuff part.

Hange chuckled before putting all of her attention to the sky. Levi followed suit, and the two watched the stars in silence.

“You know. I was always fascinated by the night sky. It is so dark, yet the stars and the moon are the only things lighting up the sky. It kind of reminds me of you.” She stated without taking her eyes away from the stars.

Levi frowned at the thought. “How?”

“Well, many people think that you are broody, grumpy, and unapproachable, but you’re not. You are different. For example, if everyone is like the sun, you are the stars that shine brightly at night. Also-” She trailed off before turning to Levi and gently grabbing his hand. Levi looked at her with shock, his face tinted red. “I find myself at peace with you. The night makes me content, just like you,” she added with a small smile.

Levi was too stunned to speak. He has associated himself with the night before, but not from Hange’s perspective. To him, she was like the sun, bright, and everyone was following her path. Another thing about the sun was that the moon reflected sunlight onto the Earth. In Levi’s opinion, he has always felt much happier and alive ever since he met Hange.

Hange gently squeezed Levi’s hand before turning to face the moon. She decided it was time to take a leap and be vulnerable.

“The moon is really beautiful tonight, isn’t it, Levi?” she said with a serene smile and a warm feeling in her chest. Hange knew that Levi would understand her words without telling him the meaning directly. It was from the bond they shared in their years at Hogwarts together. From taking Defense Against Dark Arts to drinking a glass of butterbeer at Hogsmeade. Hange knew that she was taking a step forward in her relationship with Levi, and she did not want to turn back.

Levi continued to stare at her before squeezing his hand back in reassurance. He understood Hange’s words, and he realized then that he never wanted to let go of Hange’s hand. He wanted to stay by her side until the day they died. Levi had learned to love Hange from all these years with her. She was not only a powerful witch but his best friend and the one he loves.

“It really is.”

*Veelas are magical creatures with white-gold hair and moon-bright skin. They are described as being very beautiful unless they are angered. An angry Veela transforms into something that looks like a harpy and can throw fire. Since Nanaba is half-Veela, it is unknown whether or not she can transform/throw fire.

“Levi! Levi!”

Levi groaned as he opened his eyes. “Hange, you’re being too loud.”

Said woman let out an exasperated sigh. “Levi, you need to get up and see this.”

Levi opened his eyes to see the bright blue sky. The atmosphere was very encouraging and definitely not the Survey Corps headquarters. He sat up and saw Hange standing next to him in her everyday clothing.

“What the? Where are we?”

“Good morning. Glad to see that you’re awake.” A female voice spoke from the sky.

Levi’s hands automatically moved towards his hips where his swords should be, but he found them missing.

“I had to take precautions.” The voice spoke. “Let’s say that your swords would make your quest…too easy.”

“Who the hell are you anyway? What quest are you talking about.” Hange yelled out.

“You do not need to worry about my identity. Just call me Alpha. This quest is bestowed to people every few years.”

“Why us?” Levi asked suspiciously.

“It’s in the script. Just roll with it. This quest will help you escape from this world.”

Hange gasped. “What do you mean?”

“You humans are currently in a different world. This place is called the Faulty region, where creatures named Pokémon live. Your quest is to capture the five legendaries to reach the creator of the region, Rika, located at Xiao Pillar.”

“Quests?! You took us out of our world for a goddamn quest! What’s next? Are we demigods that go to summer camp?”

The voice sighed. “No, that is for another group. Anyways, back to your quest. I will each grant you a Pokémon and Pokeballs to help you during your journey.”

Two bright lights appeared in front of Levi and Hange. It formed into two different shapes until it dissipated into a dog-like and a cat-like pokemon.

“Levi, your partner Pokémon is Cal, the cat. Hange, your partner Pokémon is Zozo, the dog. They will help guide you to each legendary.”

Hange moved to speak but stopped when Levi grabbed her shoulder and pulled her close.

“Are we going to listen to some random voice and go on a wild goose chase?” He whispered.

“What choice do we have? We need to get out of here, Levi.” Hange replied back before standing up.

“We will do your damn quest!” She yelled before going silent, a look of realization on her face. “Which way do we go first?”

“Don’t worry about that. I will help you as well.” Alpha said, and there was a boom of lightning hit the protagonists.

Everything turned black.

And so, our heroes went to confront the first legendary, Cashew, a panda.

“Is that her?” Levi asked with narrow eyes. He and Hange were hidden behind some bamboo trees watching a fluffy panda munch on mixed nuts.

“For sure. Cashew matches the description we got.” Hange nodded while holding up a strip of paper that said a panda who loves nuts.

“Fine. Let’s capture this damn Pokemon.” Levi grumbled and began to march forward, with Cal following behind.

“Levi! Watch your-”

CRUNCH

“Step."

Levi stopped moving when Cashew suddenly turned to them. He picked up his foot to find that he had stepped on a walnut.

"Son of a-"

"WHO GOES THERE?? THESE NUTS WEREN’T FREE, YOU KNOW?” The Pokemon roared as she held her stash close to her. Her brown orbies met Levi’s dark grey ones.

“YOU!! HOW DARE YOU STEP ON MY PRECIOUS NUTS??”

“Shit.” Hange cursed. “This would be a lot easier if we had our gear.”

“We have to be careful before Cashew summons Chikachironi. That’s her dinosaur with bright red eyes, by the way.” A new, feminine voice spoke from next to her.

Hange whipped her head to find out the source. Levi was too far away, and the voice sounded pretty close.

Unless….

“Yeah, I know I can talk. Cal can, too, but that is beside the point. We need to save your friend.” Zozo spoke quietly as the panda continued to yell at Levi.

“How do we do that?”

Zozo smirked. “I have an idea.”

Meanwhile, Cashew was chasing Levi during Hange and Zozo’s talk.

“GET BACK HERE, YOU FINE SPECIMEN OF A MAN!”

“I don’t know if that is a threat or a compliment,” Cal said to Levi from his shoulder.

Oh yeah, Levi knows that Cal can talk now.

“I don’t even want to know,” Levi admitted.

“CASHEW IS FUSTY!” Zozo yelled.

Cashew and Levi stopped in their tracks. “What??”

“CASHEW IS FUSTY!” Hange joined in.

White shock lines appeared around Cashew. “Me? Fusty?” she was very offended and began to head towards Hange’s direction. “I will have you know that is not me, but Jess-” Cashew was enveloped in a bright red light before going into a Pokeball Levi threw at her.

The ball shook once, twice, three times, and then stopped.

Pokemon acquired: Cashewthe panda.

With one Pokemon acquired, it was time for our protagonists to capture the next Pokemon, The Gabey.

“Man, this place is soft.” Hange sighed while burying her face in the cloth. Levi thought finding this Pokemon was a little too easy. How hard would it be to find a gopher on a big mattress with no bed frame?

It was so easy, in fact, that Gabey appeared right in front of them. She eyed the duo curiously when a floating textbox appeared out of nowhere.

The text stopped when Levi threw a Pokeball at The Gabey. The ball shook three times before clicking, indicating that the Pokemon was caught.

Hange looked up at Levi with a confused look on her face.

“What? The text was too long.”

“We get it!"

Levi and Hange caught Cashew and the Gabey! It is time to capture the third Pokemon, Moon (not the actual moon but how cool would that be?)

"Capture the Moon with Tchaikovsky’s tune.” Hange read aloud while heading into town.

“Tsk, are we actually going up to space?” Levi wondered because Ymir knew that there was no way they could get to the moon with their current technology.

Hange shook hee head. “I don’t think so. Look,” she pointed at the M in Moon. “That is capitalized, meaning it’s not the moon, but it could be the pokemon’s name."

"Could be. Who is” Levi squinted. “Chai kov sky?”

A sudden rumbling appeared out of nowhere, startling both Levi and Hange.

“What is going on?” Hange asked while holding onto Levi for dear life.

“DID SPMENE SYA TCHAIKOVSKY?” a feminine voice yelled behind the “Welcome to Votkinsk” sign.

“What did she say?” Levi asked, unsure about what that voice said. That was until a crescent moon appeared in front of them.

Cal and Zozo stepped forward. “We speak Moon, so we can translate for you,” Cal said.

“She asked if someone said, Tchaikovsky.” Zozo translated.

“TCHAIKOVSKY!!! TVR GRWTEDY CPMPOSWT OF THR LIFETNE?"

"Tchaikovsky! The greatest composer of the lifetime."

"Who is Tchaikovsky?” Levi asked with genuine confusion. He was not familiar with these names or music in general.

Moon gasped, clearly offended. “NNRIDIRJ YPU DINT KNOW WHO HE IZ? TCHAOKOVKSY WAS AN AMAAZING COMPOSER WHO WAS BORJ IN MAY 7, 1840. HE WAS BERY EMOTIONAL AND DESPITE NOT LIKING SOKENOF HIS MUSIC, HE STILL WAS ABLE TO CREATE WONFERFUL COMPOSISITONS THAT WE CAN ENJOY TODAY <3” (source: DM with Moon)

“Keyboard smash. You don’t know who he is? Tchaikovsky was an amazing composer who was born on May 7, 1840. He was very emotional and despite not liking some of his music, he still was able to create wonderful compositions that we can enjoy today <3.”

Hange’s eyes lit up with interest. “That’s interesting! What is your favorite song?”

Moon gasped. “TCHAIKOVSKY SERENADE FOR STRINGS IN C MAJOR :DD!” (source: DM with Moon). She smiled as she pulled a violin out of thin air. “I CSN PLAU IT FOE YOU IF YOI WZNR?”

(Levi began to question where a moon would keep a violin but was too stunned to ask)

“She is asking if she can play Serenade for Strings in C Major for us.”

“Of course!” Hange beamed. “My friend and I would love to hear it."

Levi frowned slightly. "We do?”

“We do,” Hange said with an elbow jab.

“OH THDNK YOU! YKU HAVE NO IDWD HOW LONG SUBVR I LADT PLATED! I CAN GP WUTH YIR AS AN AEATD FOR LISTNING TO ME PLAY.”

"She says it’s been a while since she last played. She is thanking us and she agrees to come with us after we listen to her play.”

Moon set up her instrument into position (how?) and began to play. (Moon, I am literally listening to the song at 10 pm on a work night). The Pokemon kept playing until the last note. The music put Hange and Levi at ease with its intense and poetic tune.

“Ahh. Tchaikovsky. Such a wonderful composer.” She sighed. Meanwhile, everyone was too shocked by Moon speaking clearly and not with all caps or keyboard smashes. “Anyways, I promised to join you. Cal.” Moon said while directing her attention to the cat. “Can you take a Pokeball out of your trainer’s bag so I can go in it?”

Cal brought over a Pokeball for Moon. The Pokemon tapped the top and disappeared in the red light. Everyone watched in silence as the legendary was caught.

“So..” Zozo started. “Looks like you two didn’t have to do a pokemon battle anyway.”

“What is a pokemon battle? Do we actually fight Pokemon?” Levi asked. To him, it was hand-on-hand combat like when he used to live in the Underground.

Cal sighed. “I’ll explain it to you later."

Pokemon acquired: MOON TCHAIKOVSKY

Our heroes find themselves going into a meadow to get the next legendary, Jess. Boy, are they in for a surprise!

"I wonder what Alpha means by surprise?” Hange spoke aloud as they entered the meadow. The only hint they received from the narrator for this legendary was one word: oui.

“It better be a good surprise,” Levi mumbled, his eyes searching for the legendary amongst the pink and white flowers. Maybe it was tiny?“

"Are you Levi and Hange?” a female voice spoke up next to Levi’s feet. His eyes trailed down to find a long tail and blue fur. Levi was familiar with these creatures from the Underground. Yet, he could not help but shiver from the sight of it.

“A RAT!” Levi yelled. He wished then and there that he had his swords or a broom.

The rat jumped out of fear. Jess began to wave her paws around. “No, no, sir! I am Jess, the legendary that you are looking for!”

“Filthy.” Levi frowned. A depression cloud began to form around Jess, and Hange noticed.

“Hey. It’s okay. My friend is a little bit of a clean freak.” Hange cooed in an attempt to cheer up the rat.

“If you say so.”

Suddenly, a boom of lightning appeared, filling the area with smoke. Levi and Hange coughed from the dust and opened their eyes to see…another rat?

Levi fainted right on the spot.

“What the??” Hange said with confusion, completely ignoring Levi.

The other rat, a black and white one, was not happy. “WHAT THE HECK RIKA?!”

Jess’ ears perked up from recognition. “Ness? Is that you? What are you doing here?”

“Well, one minute, Rika tried to convince me to watch some show; the next minute, I’M A RAT!”

Jess tilted her head. “Wait. I’m extremely confused?”

“You’re confused?? I’m fucking confused, bro!” (Sorry, Ness. I had to put the TikTok reference, lol)

“I don’t understand why Rika would send you here? She already has a rat legendary unless you’re replacing me?”

“Oh heck no!” Ness exclaimed before turning to the protagonists. “You two.” She pointed to Hange, who was not tending to Levi, with her paws. “You are trying to get to Rika, right?”

Hange nodded, unsure about what in the world was going on.

“Good. Let me go with you so I can show her a piece of my mind.” The rat used her tail to swipe Hange’s bag, causing a Pokeball to fall on the ground with a plop. She scurried over, touched it, and disappeared in a red beam into the ball. It shook three times before coming to a stop.

Jess, who was silent the entire time, finally decided to speak. “I guess I will just go with you now?”

Pokemon acquired: Jess and Ness(?) Hey, that rhymes!

Now that our heroes have captured four (not including Ness) out of the five legendaries, they just need to capture one more legendary before meeting Rika.

“Do you have to narrate the entire journey?” Levi whispered to Hange with a frown on his face.

“Yes. I am just reading off the script.” Alpha’s voice replied, causing Levi to frown even more.

“Cheer up, Levi.” Hange smiled and looped her arm around the man’s shoulders. “Maybe someone is reading about our quest, which is why Alpha is narrating it.”

Levi rolled his eyes. “That sounds like bullshit.”

“You never know.” Cal and Zozo spoke up simultaneously, a small smile evident on their faces.

The group continued walking until they stumbled on a forest filled with various berry trees. There were blue oran berries, red razz berries, yellow and orange figy berries, pink pecha berries, and more! The whole forest ran as far as the eye could see.

“So, how do we find the legendary here?” Hange asked aloud to Levi. They had received a paper from Alpha, but the hint was very vague. It had only said to find the berry forest, and that was it.

“I can help with that,” Zozo spoke up from Hange’s side before running off to climb up an aspear berry tree. She plucked the yellow fruit off the tree and returned back to Hange. She set the aspear berry down in front of her trainer’s feet. “There is a reason why this legendary resides in a berry forest. Deep within it is Bibble’s shrine. All we have to do is collect some berries and give them to her as an offering.”

“Bibble? What kind of name is Bibble?” Levi asked.

“Long story short, it’s the name they chose when they decided to be a god. Don’t ask why.” Cal admitted. Hange and Levi stared at the cat and blinked.

“Okay… Let’s go find some berries.” Hange smiled and walked off with Zozo. Levi followed suit with Cal.

The duo split up to tackle multiple trees. It was not long before the trainers gathered a generous amount of berries for Bibble.

“I will lead you all to Bibble’s shrine. Just set the berries down in front of it, and she will show up in no time.” Zozo said and walked ahead of their group. They continued walking until they saw a small, wooden shrine in a grassy clearing. Hange and Levi walked to its front and set their berries down.

They waited

And waited

And waited

“Are those for me? Don’t mind if I do.” A deep, jazzy-like male voice asked from behind a tree.

“Oh no…Bibble must have eaten a razz berry.” Cal sweatdropped.

“What do you mean?” Levi asked.

“Sometimes berries can affect Bibble’s voice. It is not often, but it occasionally happens.”

Suddenly, a small pink and blue puffball thing with wings appeared and examined the berry pile.

“Ooo, the Bibble is very pleased. I am going to eat well tonight.” They grinned before picking up and taking a bite of a juicy, yellow pinap berry.

The group watched closely to see how this berry would affect the Pokémon. They did not expect an opera singer’s voice to come out.

“Are you the travelers that Rika mentioned?” Bibble asked while turning to greet her guests.

Hange and Levi nodded, unaware and confused about what was happening.

“Ahh, that is slay. Very slay indeed. Okay, I will accompany you on your journey under one condition. You must say "praise the Bibble,” and that is it.“

"That’s it? We’re supposed to bow down to a floating rat (I’m sorry, Ash!) with wings?” Levi asked.

Bibble frowned. “Are you challenging my authority? You need ME to get out of here Shorty."

Hange rolled her eyes before grabbing the back of Levi’s head and pushing him down, forcing him to bow. "All hail lord Bibble.” She chanted and glared at Levi to do the same. Levi sighed and joined in.

Bibble smirked with glee. “That is more like it! I will join you on your quest.” The Pokemon flew over to Hange’s bag, grabbed a Pokeball, and disappeared inside it.

Pokémon acquired: Lord Bibble.

Now that our heroes caught all the Pokemon needed, it is finally time to meet with Rika, the creator of the Faulty region. Will our heroes make it back to their world, or will they be stuck in this world forever? Stay tuned in to find out!

“I never expected there to be so many stairs,” Hange complained aloud, the sun shining brightly, causing everyone to sweat. The whole group, including the caught legendaries, trailed along behind her.

“Tell me about it,” Zozo grumbled.

The group stopped in an area with twelve empty granite pedestals (five lower ones and six higher ones) with a throne at the very top.

“So, how do we summon Rika?” Levi whispered to Cal.

“The others know what to do. We just have to sit and wait."

The five legendaries, minus Ness, separated until they stood on top of the five lower pillars. They all began to glow with different colors as the sky became dark. The legendaries began to sing Careless Whisper while Cashew played her saxophone (like Moon, she pulled the instrument out of thin air). Alpha’s voice boomed across the sky.

"Rika! Hear us! We summon you!”

Levi and Hange watched in awe as a bright light ripped through the clouds. A girl wearing purple and white clothing with blue accents (think Xiao for this) appeared floating in the sky. She had her eyes closed as she descended down until she sat on the throne. The girl opened her eyes, revealing her yellow topaz orbs. Cal, Zozo, and Ness (although reluctantly) immediately bowed to her. Levi and Hange followed suit.

“Welcome. You all can rise.” She commanded with a soothing voice. Rika turned her attention to the humans. “My name is Rika. You must be Levi and Hange. I heard so much about you.” she smiled.

Hange made a move to speak but was interrupted by Ness.

“Hey, Rika! You got some explaining to do! Why am I a rat? It should be you!”

Rika tilted her head, feigning innocence and trying to hold back a laugh. “What do you mean? I think the new look suits you.”

“You little!”

Rika snapped her fingers, and Ness stopped talking. The rat opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Meanwhile, the five legendaries (minus Cashew because Ness is her spouse), Zozo, and Cal tried so hard not to laugh from their seats.

Angered by being muted, Ness began to charge at Rika until she snapped again. This time, Ness ran straight into a wall. She tried to run back to charge but realized she could only go back one foot. In short, Rika put Ness in an invisible box.

Rika turned back to Levi and Hange. “Now. where were we?”

“We were promised by the damn narrator that you will take us back to our world,” Levi said, getting straight to the point.

“Ahh, right. Alpha did promise that. Very well, your wish is my command."

"Wait.” Hange stepped forward. “Why were we the ones sent to this world? What caused us to go here?”

Rika smiled as if remembering something. “I had a feeling you would ask that. To be honest, the reason you are here is out of coincidence. My six mythical friends (the mythical Pokemon being Sav, Anna, Min, Julia, Amanda, and Jaxx) randomly decided on you two to enter this world and go on an adventure. I assure you that they do this all the time, but they do not mean any harm.”

“That’s it? It was out of luck?”

Rika nodded. “That is correct.”

Hange let out a loud sigh. “Well, that is great! Here I thought that we would be stuck here until we die.” She then turned to Levi and held out her hand. “Let’s go home.”

Levi grabbed her hand. “I agree,” he said with a small smile. He then turned to the five legendaries and Cal. “I am going to miss you all.”

“Same here! I will miss you the most, Zozo.” Hange added.

Everyone said their goodbyes to the humans while Zozo and Cal left their side to stand next to Rika.

“Goodbye, and I wish you luck in your world.” Rika snapped her fingers again, and everything turned black.

“Oi Hange. Get up."

Hange grumbled incoherently and turned away from Levi. "Five more minutes.”

“No,” he said. He proceeded to pick up Hange and throw her over his shoulder. “I do not want you to miss breakfast again."

"You could have at least brought me breakfast in bed,” Hange whined as they left her room.

“No thanks."

It was silent as Levi made his way through the corridor. Both of them had the same thought in their heads. Was that all a dream?

"Hey, Levi. Did you dream that you and I went to another world?”

Levi hummed in agreement. “I think it was just a fever dream. Nothing more.”

“You think it is our minds playing with us?"

"Maybe.”

Hange stayed silent. Although everything felt like a dream, it was actually fun to go on an adventure with Levi and a group of people. Maybe she could set up one with the 104 kids?

“Whatever you are thinking in your head, save that for another time.” Levi randomly said as if he had read her mind.

“Oh, come on, Levi! It would be so much fun.”

“We’ll see.” a small smile adorned Levi’s face. He never disagreed with the idea, but he did not agree with it yet.

Meanwhile, a few years later.

A man with long black hair and wearing a half and half haori groaned on his spot. He had a pounding headache and felt something or someone poking his cheek. The last thing he remembered was going to sleep after a long night fighting some demons.

“Ara ara, Tomioka-san~. I see that you are finally awake. I need you to help me out with something.”

Tomioka opened his eyes to find the Insect Hashira, Shinobu, looking down at him and poking his cheek. The sky behind her was very bright and unfamiliar to the Water Hashira.

“Shinobu? Where are we?”

“Welcome, heroes!” A female voice suddenly called out from the sky.

What the?
