Aren’t mermaids said to be the most compassionate creatures?
While knowing her love will never be reciprocated, the Little Mermaid gave her everything to the prince.
That devotion is as beautiful as a flower falling on the waves.

The little mermaid gave her voice to the witch to gain legs.
That thoughtless prince couldn’t possibly understand the pain in her legs that she was forced to endure to get close to him.
What was that fated love she was talking about?

The Little Mermaid’s sisters are hypocrites.
Who on earth would advise their sister to kill the man she loves?
It’s like the have no regard for their sister’s happiness at all.
If you were going to go that far, why didn’t you guys just kill the prince and prepare to be hated?

The Little Mermaid died because of the prince and that other woman.
Their marriage is cursed.
When their people find out the truth, nothing less than death await them, and their flimsy love will endure, endure, endure, until they die.

After SNL’s brilliant sketch “The Real Housewives of Disney” (watch here) comes another striking (and ironic) take on fairy tale princesses.

With her latest series “Fallen Princesses”, Vancouver photographer Dina Goldstein shows us what happens when reality takes over fantasy.

"I explored the original brothers Grimm’s stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney’s perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues. […] In all of the images, the Princess is placed in an environment that articulates her conflict.“ Dina Goldstein

…and they lived happily never after. Enjoy!
