According to Naruto every academy student had to finish that quest - find missing cats. Team G was no different - but after they collected all lost kittens and went back to Academy before returning little guys to their owners, they noticed that one cat is missing! They checked all the places, but the kitten was lost forever. A few days later mistery revealed itself - it was Gaki who took the black kitten home without telling anyone. He kept it under his bed, afraid of what his dads would do if they find the new tenant. It was Madara who found Gaki’s secret pet first, but to Gaki’s surprise, he agreed for the hissing creature to live in his cavehouse. A few hours later the kitten was sleeping in Madara’s hair and basically started to live there (Madara’s hair is like a completely different universe, you never know what you’ll find there). One day Obito noticed, that his husband’s hair purrs… Not moved by tears he returned kitten to the former owner. The next days in Uchiha Cave were a neverending festival of mourning. Both Gaki and Madara refused to smile ever again (not like the older Uchiha smiles like once per year, but whatever). For days Obito heard them sighing and sobbing and wailing. He was sooo done with that that he went to reclaim black furball. He threatens the owner that he wants the kitten back, or God helps me, too bad that your Hokage lost an arm because I’m so going to start another Shinobi War over this stupid cat because apparently it’s the only way to make those two shitheads in my house to shut up.
And that’s how Gaki got his kitten back and Obito regained peace of mind. The cat still sleeps in Madara’s hair from time to time.
Madara and Obito reunited. The only variation of Mada/Obi ship I love is both of them as adults - not some creepy grandpa/kid stuff X)

Obito had the opportunity to steal enough of the bijuu from Madara to save Naruto because Madara trustedhim.
We know Madara as an individual who is paranoid down to his core. And he let his guard down. He gave Obito the chance to attack him.
(This has nothing to do with Obito’s general capabilities or his ability to deceive others - both skills which he excells at, but that’s completely irrelevant here.)
Why would someone who has severe trust issues to the point that all his problems can be traced back to it (his fallout with Hashirama, him losing all hope into the future of shinobi kind, him declaring the village an unfixable failure) do that?
Simple. He told us the reasons himself just one moment earlier before Obito’s betrayal.
To him, Obito is Madara. In his eyes, Obito has become (just like Zetsu) an extension of himself.
And who is the only one he trusts? Himself.
He trusted Obito because he trusts himself.
He trusted Obito like no one else because of this.
Again, why? Well, because Madara, despite seeing the whole world as both his enemy and his responsibility, is lonely.
His whole driving point is that he lost the last person he trusted completely and (more importantly) unconditionally: Izuna. Not even Hashirama could measure up, because Hashirama was not his brother - Hashirama had to show his guts first by nearly killing himself before Madara granted him some temporary trust again.
He didn’t give anyone in his clan that kind of trust either. He didn’t trust anybody. He wouldn’t have trusted Obito, the real Obito Uchiha, either.
But he craved someone at his side. He yearned for trust, but he was so far gone that he could not spare that luxury.
So he made himself a comrade.
He made Obito into someone he could trust, he made him into Madara. He broke him down and put him back together until he created the only person in the world he could trust.
(Or so he thought.)
In short: Obito was meant to be a true comrade, but was reduced to a tool after he betrayed Madara’s trust.
The ideal illusion of a mirror like partner Madara had created was destroyed and renamed into a “cheap copy” to soothe his own hurt ego and feelings.
