The time when Richard Rider’s brother was kidnapped and lost his finger
Richard Rider is not the only one who faced misfortune, Robert Rider got bad luck when he was kidnapped by the Poison Memories gang because the New Warriors’ identities were leaked and the gang responded to their grudge with Night Thrasher by kidnapping/maiming the families of the New Warriors. Richard Rider and the New Warriors were angry, scared and helpless as they experienced the attacks on their families. As the phone rings with the answering machine turned on, the New Warriors heard the threats from the gang leader that they must turn themselves in or they might hurt the hostages. Then, the Poison Memories cut off Robert Rider’s pinky finger to show that they are not messing around.
The New Warriors (except Rage) had no choice but to turn themselves in to the gangsters. They were eventually rescued by Night Thrasher who turned up at the darkest hour. The New Warriors rescued their families held hostage as well as they defeated the Poison Memories gang (though Rage was the one who killed the gang leader out of revenge for his late grandmother).
On the aftermath of the rescue, the New Warriors try to recover their ordeal with their families. Richard Rider felt awful about this and later went to the university to talk to his brother and ask for his forgiveness. Robert Rider said there was nothing to forgive and he would gladly give up more fingers (as a figure of speech, mind you) if that’s what it took for his brother to save lives.
