Twitter voted for LauriEven and their bunny (Even Jr) to be my next sketchbook’s first page, so here they are! This is the most sketchy first page I’ve ever done and I wish to create more of such pieces.

(This is for the kh countdown that @kenzichi is hosting!!! Kingdom of Corona is the world I’m the most excited to see in KH3 since Tangled is my favorite Disney movie included in this world lineup. I also hope the dandelion heartless’s and Marluxia’s inclusion in this world hint towards the plot of khux!)
wanted to share some of my process from the last art I posted…
The theme started as the future looking at the past, but then I remembered the medals used in the mobile game; that had representations of heroes and villains from the future. So then I imagined an art show event opening up in daybreak town, featuring artistic interpretations of the future as foretold by the foretellers.
It sort of became a sense of the future, past, and present gazing directly at each other, while the other is blissfully unaware.
Also here’s the full detail of the frame. So much work to then cover a big chunk of detail up I would’ve wanted to design more options but just making one took so long.
For this tiny part, I’ve joked that this was my favorite detail because of the effort attempting the look of engraved lettering and was so happy when I finally achieved the effect! The caption/label next to a painting can also be called a “tombstone” I recently discovered
I forgot to note this, so I had to decipher the scala language here again. It says:
Agent of Darkness, as foretold by the Masters.
This was a last minute detail but I’m glad I put it in, or otherwise that spot beneath the painting would’ve been an awkward blank space
These details also took a bit of time, but honestly the most soothing parts to work on compared to everything else! I deliberately invoked those “momento mori” and “vanitas” paintings to add to Marluxia’s death motifs and a sense of foreboding for Lauriam.

I know this theory has been talked about somewhat before, but the Marluxia boss fight all of a sudden becomes really disturbing when you realize that this thing (with feminine features I might add):

may actually be the nobody of Strelitzia, and Marluxia- who was possibly her murderer- has it under his control. In fact the whole final boss sequence here reminds me a lot of Ansem SoD with his Guardian that seems somehow bound to him (and we have good reason to believe the Guardian is Terra’s heartless). Here we have the inverse though- a powerful nobody guardian that seems bound to another powerful nobody (perhaps almost as powerful as Xehanort, considering Marluxia’s age).
This is what the Bird of Paradise flower looks like (aka Strelitzia):
Striking resemblance to the scythe design in both shape and color (and the overall shape of the second form).
And Strelitzia herself:
Notice the color scheme- mostly white with some black (associated with Nobodies- much like Roxas’ color scheme), the length of the tails on the black ribbon (compare to the ribbons on the final form), and her arm coverings. And this isn’t even getting into the symbolism of Marluxia’s weapon being a scythe and the final form being designed like an angel of death- or one of Marluxia’s names being “the Graceful Assassin”.
Do I think Nomura had this planned from the beginning? No. Well, not specifically. But this is exactly the sort of thing Nomura loves to do. Take elements from past games we all assumed were just aesthetic choices or “game logic” and somehow make them part of the lore in some massive plot twist. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Strelitzia was named and designed as she was, and heavily hinted to have been murdered by Lauriam.
Not to mention, there’s also this anniversary artwork of the Union Leaders:
The only one we don’t know is the hooded figure (wearing the cloak we mostly associate with Nobodies), but it’s likely meant to be Strelitzia seeing as she was going to be one of the leaders. And the flowers she is holding? They may be a type of white Bleeding Heart:
“The rarer white Bleeding Heart is considered a symbol of purity and innocence instead, especially to represent beautiful young women who died in a tragic way.”
So like my partner and I are doing a canon retell and we have expanded on so many things it’s so great T___T It all makes sense trust me I hope
Anyway this is Lauriam and Renael (yea it’s not the same as the name in UX we came up with this one years ago and still like it better and it’s a different canon anyway whoops)
