A-tisket, a-tasket, here’s a sneak peek of a deep-sea basket!

Basket stars are a deep-sea classic—they’ve been unfurling their appendages like bony fractals into a woven catch-all for passing particles for over 300 million years. As echinoderms (meaning “spiny skin”) they’re related to starfish, sea cucumbers and sea urchins—and close cousins to the snakey-armed brittle stars you may find in tide pools. You’ll soon be able to basket in its glory—“Into The Deep: Exploring Our Undiscovered Ocean” opens April 9, 2022!
