Congratulations,Matt de la Peña, on becoming the first Latino author to receive the Newbery Medal for outstanding contribution to children’s literature!
Matt de la Peña has received the award for his book Last Stop on Market Street, illustrated by Christian Robinson. Following his win, he stated in an interview with NPR:
“The inclusion of diverse literature is so important to me, I’ve been doing this for ten years, writing diverse characters, and I just want to honor every Hispanic writer who’s come before me.”
