Here is a 1908 advertisement for the Edison Phonograph from McClure’s Magazine, which was invented just 30 years earlier. You can see the pretty swastika on a placemat for the phonograph to sit.

The Edison Phonograph was the very first device that could reproduce recorded sound by using a tin foil-like sheet on a cylinder. Alexander Graham Bell and Emile Berliner both improved the invention in later years.

According to Wikipedia “Bromide compounds, especially potassium bromide, were frequently used as sedatives in the 19th and early 20th century. Their use in over-the-counter sedatives and headache remedies (such as Bromo-Seltzer) in the United States extended to 1975, when bromides were withdrawn as ingredients, due to chronic toxicity.”
