#meghanndoingdisney
Okay, lets see…where do I even start?
Check In Day: Basically, we waiting in line for forever, got really sweaty and gross then had our pictures taken. Mine looks horrible, incase you’re wondering. We also found out where we work- I’m in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom! Then we had casting, where we filled out some more papers and got our finger prints taken and blah blah blah. Later that night my roomies and I all went to Walmart to get some groceries and what not.
Day 2: I had a housing meeting, where they basically explained the rules of housing and what no to do unless you want to get termed. Easy enough. Then I went to Downtown Disney with my family and got dinner at Earl of Sandwich, which, by the way, is delicious!
Day 3: I had absolutely nothing to do, so I went to Animal Kingdom with my family because my wonderful Mama bought me a ticket! It was insanely hot. Sweat was pouring off of us. Oh, and I got picked to volunteer twice in one day! Once was at a show at Rafiki’s Planet Watch and I got to help a pig paint a picture, and the second time was at the Flights of Wonder show where a bird stole a dollar from me. But no worries, he gave it back. We left AK around 5, then I went home and made myself some dinner. My roomies and I ended up staying up until around 3:00 in the morning talking and laughing.
And now it’s Day 4: traditions! My first official day of work! Everyone but Stefani has traditions at 2:30 today. I know we get our name tags and our company IDs, but otherwise, we haven’t really been told what’s going to happen.
Things I’ve learned in the past three days…
- My roomies are amazing
- Brittany was one of those girls in middle school
- Two of the burners on our stove don’t work
- Couponing is addictive
- Animal Kingdom is the best place ever
- Military time isn’t too bad
- I’m going to love it here
Tomorrow I turn 20! Which means in a year I’ll be able to apply for a job with Disney Cruise Lines!
This is something I’ve wanted to do since my first Disney cruise two years ago. I know the rooms are tiny and you don’t get any real days off, but, for me, the pros outweigh the cons. Traveling the world, meeting new people, exploring new places- it’s the opportunity of a lifetime!
I’m packing and I never realized how many shoes I have. I’m taking black flats, black heels, white heels, two pairs of flip flops, gold sandals, tennis shoes, vans, white lacy tom-ish shoes, black lacy tom-ish shoes, comfy sporty flip flops, and I’m debating taking a pair of boots.
I need help.
Yesterday my friend Chesley and I went thrift shopping and I found this amazing dress! It’s yellow with a bow on it and it’s very Belle. So I’m thinking this will be my dress for the CP formal and/or Dapper Day!
In other news, I have approximately a million things to do before I leave:
- Pack!!!
- Clean my room at both houses
- Wash my car
- Give my horse a bath
- Clean the inside of my car
- Clean my saddle and bridle
- Wash my saddle pad
- Buy toiletries and such
- Go out for crabs
- Celebrate my birthday with my family
- Hang out/say goodbye to all of my friends
- Try to calm down…who are we kidding, that won’t happen!
Also, my roommate, Brittany, made reservations at a nice restaurant for her birthday! She and I are so insanely excited to being our new adventure!!!
because I accidentally deleted the first one.
I’m obviously pretty horrible at updating, so I’ll try to make up for it…
- Only 23 days until check in!
- My mom and sister got their magic bands today!
- My aunt took me shopping (with my Nana’s money) for things for my apartment and I got a bunch of cool stuff and now I just need things like toiletries and such
- I’m going to miss my cat a lot
- The day before check in we’re going to Magic Kingdom and staying at Pop Century
- My sister really wants to try the tie-dye cheesecake
- I should probably start packing soon
- ohmygod 23 days!!!
- I went to the beach so now I’m kind of tan so maybe I won’t burn in Florida
- I’m worried about how my hair will react to the humidity
- My sister sprained her right ankle and broke her left foot
- My mom is worried that all my stuff won’t fit into her car
- I’m not looking forward to an 18 hour car ride to Florida
- ONLY 23 MORE DAYS!
I guess you could say I’m excited.
I will miss my horse and my cat though.
I’m getting more excited every day!
I bought my tickets for Villains Unleashed and so did four of my future roomies. Every since I started watching Once Upon A Time I’ve been in love with villains, so I can’t wait to meet them!
We’ve made our reservations for the hotel the night before check in. Originally we were going to stay in All Star Movies, but now we’re staying in Pop Century! We’ll be headed down August 2nd, stopping somewhere to sleep that night, then driving the rest of the way and going to one of the parks on the 3rd. Then the next day is check in! I hate long car rides, so that might kill me, but it’ll be worth it.
I still have so much stuff to get, but hopefully I’ll be able to go shopping soon.
As for my horse- it looks like he’ll have a five month vacation while I’m away. Someone wanted to use him for beginner lessons, but I’m worried he would pick up bad habits and get dead sided or hard mouthed. So I told my dad he has to go up to brush him at least once a month while I’m gone.
Have I mentioned that I can’t wait?! Leaving behind my horse, my cat, my friends, and my family will be really hard, but I think it’ll be worth it. I’m getting an amazing opportunity- I can go to the parks whenever I want for free, I’ll be there for Halloween and Christmas, it’s a great name for my resume, I’ll make a ton of new friends, and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot!
P.S. I’ve never stepped foot in Pop Century, so if anyone has any suggestions or knows what it’s like, let me know! Obligatory question mark?
Update time!
Yesterday I made a magical moment for a little princess and her family. Her mom came up to me while I was at the outside register at Pooh’s and asked if I had any glue because her daughter’s tiara broke. I only had tape, and it didn’t look very good, so I asked her to wait around for a few minutes and I would see if I could make some magic. I called my coordinator and explained the situation and within a few minutes, she brought over a new crown from one of our stores! Our little princess was so excited, she gave us all hugs and her mom couldn’t stop thanking us.
Pooh’s is my least favorite area to work in, but it’s still so much fun. Usually when I’m merchantaining I get to play with bubble guns and some kids get so excited about it! It’s precious. Then sometimes their parents buy a bubble gun for them and we have a bubble war!
I’m absolutely loving my Enviornmentality and Sustainability class. We’re learning so much about what Disney does to help save the environment and recycle. Did you know that Disney matches every dollar donated? And one third of their land, in addition to the Animal Kingdom, has been set aside as a wildlife preserve. We also get to go one some really fun field trips and talk to some awesome guest speakers. Two weeks ago, we went to Animal Kingdom for a scavenger hunt and then a special extra long safari! This week we’re going behind the scenes at The Land at Epcot, and last week the person in charge of recycling at Magic Kingdom came in to speak to us.
Tomorrow three of my roomies and I are staying at the Grand Floridian for a night. We got a club level room and it’s going to be absolutely beautiful. Then on the 23rd, we’re going to another Halloween party! Shout out to Grammy for making me an amazing costume! I can’t wait to wear it again.
On Thursday Stefani and I had a roomie day, which I’ll make a separate post about. We went to Typhoon Lagoon, the Poly, Fort Wilderness, and then ate dinner at Tony’s!
Of course I’m missing my friends, family, and pets, but so far the homesickness isn’t too bad.
Also, I apologize to my friends and family at home that I haven’t been able to talk to much. I usually get home from work around 1 or 2 in the morning, and when I’m not working, I’m sleeping, playing in the parks, or doing chores around our apartment. Plus, we get horrible cell service in our apartment so I can’t talk on the phone while I’m cooking or cleaning or in the apartment in general without saying “can you hear me now?” every ten seconds.
More updates and pictures coming soon!
We had our first inspections and we passed! We didn’t get the white glove award, which is for if your apartment is absolutely perfect, but we got cookies for passing.
Good job, apartment 1308.
I made a magical moment for two precious little princesses yesterday.
I was working at Bonjour, which is the shop near Gaston’s Tavern, and two adorable little girls came in. I started talking to them and they told me how much they loved my pins. I asked each of them which their favorite one was and then asked if they would like to have their favorites. They were so excited and their mom couldn’t believe I was giving them my pins! It was so precious, one of the girls was jumping up and down because she was so happy. Then they told me they were going to Enchanted Tales With Belle next and I told them how fun it was.
They each gave me a hug before they left. It’s little moments like this that remind me how amazing my job is.
But for now…a quick review
- My dad and stepmom visited me and bought me meals which made me and my stomach super happy
- The Halloween party was incredibly fun
- Stefani is teaching me how to salsa dance
- I’ve had a lot of stock shifts lately
- I miss my horse, my cat, my dogs, and my family
- I have a cold, which is unfortunate
- My roomies are the best
- Disney is wonderful
Tomorrow I start my Environmentality and Sustainability class and I’m so excited! I’ll post more about the Halloween Party soon!
oops.
Blogging is hard.
Okay, lets see…
I’m still loving my job, especially the little kids and the pixie dusting. The worst part is when someone doesn’t speak english and I can’t communicate with them.
I think I’m going to get new shoes because my work shoes are falling apart already. Goodbye $40. Maybe I’ll start using them for stock shifts, and get new shoes for my register shifts.
I’ve had two shifts in Bonjour, which is the shop where everything is Beauty and The Beast and I love it! I’m probably going to buy everything in there when our holiday discount starts.
Tomorrow I’m going to Epcot with my roomies!
I also desperately need to do laundry and go grocery shopping.
Update time! Where did I last leave off…
I’ve officially earned my ears! I know how to “merchantain”, do register, stock, and sew the ears. I haven’t had a stock shift since my stock training and I don’t have one for at least a week, so I’m a little worried I’ll forget everything. Sewing ears isn’t too difficult, and I love doing the merchantainment! Get it? It’s merchandise + entertainment. So clever. If I’m merchantaining in Castle Couture I get to sprinkle pixie dust on people! I absolutely love it.
Last night Stefani, Cassidy, Brittany, and I went to Villains Unleashed, which I’ll make a separate post about later.
Tonight while I was working at Sir Mickey’s, a little girl came over and asked for my autograph and to take a picture! I signed it “Princess Meghann”. Hopefully she didn’t think I was an actual disney princess.
So far, the homesickness isn’t too bad. Occasionally I’ll miss home and my family, but never enough to even think about leaving.
My roommates are still wonderful, our apartment is doable, and the buses aren’t as bad as I expected…but sometimes they are.
So far I’ve resisted pin collecting…but those shoe ornaments they have here…I might not be able to resist them for much longer…
