#mentats headcanons

LIVE

@solas-you-nerdmentioned me in her post about romancable Carrington, now I feel like a proud representative of this ship, so have some of my Carrington/Malcolm headcanons:

  • Malcolm never quite lets go this whole issue with Carrington’s initial distrust, it’s not that he holds a grudge or anything, they just like to snark about it, they will probably still do it years later
  • they try to add time for each other into their schedules in advance, it doesn’t always work out, in the kind of life they lead you can’t predict everything, but at least they try
  • as much as Malcolm was the one to hold most of the innitiative in the initial stages of getting to know each other, it was Carrington who eventually insisted they have a talk about what exactly is going on between them
  • Carrington is more of a morning person, Malcolm is anything but, so in the early hours of day it’s actually Mal who is the more grumpy and grumbly one. it’s confusing to see them like that
  • they enjoy to playing chess, especially since they are on similar level of ability
  • having no immediate ways of long-distance communication is bullshit if you ask Malcolm, he always liked to be part of other people’s lives even when he couldn’t be there physically, he writes notes/short letters and gives them to Drummer Boy upon leaving HQ with request to deliver one every few days. Carrington has a box where he keeps all of them
  • Malcolm kisses Carrington’s hands when he thanks him for his hard work
  • Carrington likes to play with Malcolm’s hair, or just run his fingers through them, he claims it’s really calming

I suffer because I feel there is not enough creative characters doing creative stuff in the games, I know in postapocalypse’s most important themes are survival and whatever, but fallout is postpostapocalypse, people are settling down, creating communities, trying to live instead of just surviving.

I’m passionate about art in many forms, so give you a list of stuff that you could do in fallout that comes to my head (feel free to add more in reblogs):

  • pencil drawings, there are lots of pencils around, but honestly anything that leaves a mark on paper would do
  • sculptures and installations made out of debris
  • wood carving, someone probably carved themselves nice chess pieces for one of the chessboards you can find
  • jewellery made out of metal and other stuff available
  • fashion!! like people who are able to sew nice things being the most popular people in town
  • patchworking
  • COLLAGES, people making cool stuff out of old newspapers and magazines and combining them with postwar stuff
  • scrapbooking, anyone?
  • making toys and sewing plushies
  • painting on walls of destroyed buildings
  • making posters both with some practical use in mind and completely artistic ones
  • you can’t tell me that fanfiction is not a big thing in fallout, everyone in the wasteland has an opinion on Grognak and there is no chance of getting new issues, so you gotta take things in your own hands
  • speaking of which people being inspired by comic books they read and wanting to make their own comics, imagine someone making a comic about one of fallout protagonists
  • writing original books and short stories
  • POETRY
  • writing memoirs!!
  • people collecting some sort of stuff in general and making exhibits
  • everything connected to radio, interesting auditions made by people who managed to scrap together their own radio station
  • people making kinda sorta audiobooks to play them in parts on the radio, because there is so few copies of actual paper books left
  • making covers of prewar songs
  • making your own songs and not only really professional and good ones, silly little songs that you sing when there is nothing to do and walking takes forever are a part of culture too
  • STORYTELLING
  • someone managing to find an old movie holotape and adapting it into writing, or just taking few plot point or characters and making something new out of it
  • dancing??? ?
  • it’s hard to find instruments in good shape, but people can make their own? in the end music is just a bunch of sounds, you can even play spoons
  • inventing new games
  • writing stories for children
