From storyboard to screen, Doctor WhoartistMike Collins shared the scenes from Oxygen when the Doctor puts on Bill’s space helmet. I love seeing stuff like this. It’s nice to watch someone help out another with something that will protect them from harm. The Doctor is like a parent here, or living up to the ‘grandad’ title, by assisting his friend. ♥

Mike Collins is one talented dude.

And don’t forget Rachael Stott. I feel like she definitely had some subconscious influence in his concept.

gusgrissom:

Michael, I have no words. Just this morning I was thinking about your friend John and how much we miss him.

Thank you for everything. I feel blessed for the few interactions we had, I’ll treasure them forever. In the coming days many people will call you “the forgotten astronaut,” but those of us who knew and loved you know you could never, will never, be forgotten. You’ve left us a legacy, now it’s our turn to continue the work.

We will mourn and miss you. But you were the first to admit that you had long and brilliant life. And we can take comfort in knowing that you’re now reunited with the one and only love of your life. May your memory be a blessing, always. Ad astra, my friend.

Michael Collins (October 31, 1930 – April 28, 2021)

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year. Miss this guy a whole lot and forever grateful for the life he led.

“I have been places and done things you simply would not believe, I feel like saying; I have dangled from a cord a hundred miles up; I have seen the earth eclipsed by the moon, and enjoyed it. I have seen the sun’s true light, unfiltered by any planet’s atmosphere. I have seen the ultimate black of infinity in a stillness undisturbed by any living thing. I have been pierced by cosmic rays on their endless journey from God’s place to the limits of the universe.

“Although I have no intention of spending the rest of my life looking back, I do have this secret, this precious thing, that I will always carry with me. I have not been able to do these things because of any great talent I possess; rather, it has all been the roll of the dice, the same dice that causes the growth of cancer cells, or an aircraft ejection seat to work or not work. In my life so far I have been very, very lucky.

“Any death seems premature, but I really believe my own will seem less premature, because of what I have been able to do.”
