“Alien Nation” Ep 17: “Real Men”

“This sighting has everything I could ever want in an mpreg plotline. Writing that takes itself seriously, a dramatic birth, great special effects and makeup, a sympathetic character, and the analyzing of gender roles. Not only by what women have to endure, but also the pressure of being a “man” and the effects of masculinity. I love talking about gender roles, which is why “Junior” is my favorite mpreg movie. We also see a character who’s very familiar with the process of his pregnancy, it being his third child instead of his first. This is also an alien pregnancy, leaving the writers room to stretch what can happen in this gestation. It’s very similar to how seahorses reproduce, and it’s just fascinating.
