Have you seen the bubbling mineral springs in the Longmire Meadow? Volcanic gas, part of Mount Rainier’s hydrothermal activity, is always escaping the springs. Evidence of this gas is hard to see during the summer when the pools of water in the meadow dry up. Spring snow melt and fall rain refills these pools with water, revealing the “bubbles” of volcanic gas.
