Thescurfy twiglet is one of the 74 species of fungi commonly known as twiglet mushrooms (Tubaria). These mushrooms are often seen growing on and around decaying wood, which probably explains the ‘twiglet’ part. ‘Scurfy’ refers to the cap’s flaky texture which, particularly on immature forms (above), doesn’t look that different from dandruff. Not sure how to feel about that.

did you know that many mushrooms produce odours to attract flies which help spread their spores. much like flowers do for bees.
