#night owls
If my union ever finds out about my occasional hour or so of productive overnight work…I wish I could do all my data crunching and general scutwork in the wee sma’s. It’s so peaceful, and knocks down lurking anxiety-beasts very nicely. I know the work-hours policies are intended to protect people from being coerced or obliged to work beyond “reasonable” times of day, but for me, overnight at home is the perfect working environment.
I wonder what the situation will be like in grad school - most grad students in my program have shared offices, and certainly the PhD students work very late hours sometimes. I wonder if a spontaneous night-owl society will form in my office, or if it’s frowned upon to stay late too often, since we’re Unionized too. There’s not much anyone can do if we just hike one building over and set up in one of the public study areas, which are open all night for good reason!
