Todays update is a little preview of one of the maps. I’m doing my best to make the maps from scratch, without using any tilesets and make it look like a painting. It’s a lot of work, but it should pay off.

Concept Art for the the first characters you’ll meet in the game.

I know it’s been a really long time and you might have thought this blog was dead, but it isn’t! I was just focusing on other projects.

But now I have the motivation again to make a game! I’ve been working on it for a while now and wanted to reveal it when I have actually something to show.

Without further ado, let me present you

The Voices Within

It will be a fantasy rpg game made with the rpg maker vx ace and it’s a story of angels, demons and humans and each of the races relationship with mana - the energy that gives life to everything. So far, the outline has been planned, characters made and I’ve started to work on the graphics. I’m planning on making it a medium-length game (under 10 hours), so that I can use this chance to try some things I wanted to add into my future games.

It will feature original graphics, 2 different endings and a battlesystem inspired by rock-paper-scissors.

The last version had a game-breaking bug, so I fixed it and uploaded a new version.

This is the link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/flpekxug0z7nbd2/Reap_what_you_sow%28BetaV2%29.exe/file

I’ve finally finished everything and all that’s left is bug hunting. Obviously I can’t do that alone, so I’d like to ask everyone who plays the game for some feedback

For more information and the link to the full (beta) game, click here:

I’m sorry everyone who has waited for the beta-release, but unfortunately, I was only able to finish the dialogues. I haven’t had the time to draw the rest of the CGs, so I will move the release to a week later.
(I also forgot that I had to test everything before releasing the beta ^^°)

New Update!

I have now finished all storylines for the bachelors/bachelorettes! I still have to draw their CGs, but that should (hopefully) be also finished soon.

There are three other individual storylines I’d like to add, but I’m not sure if I can manage them all. One of them is kinda important to the love-interests so I really want to finish at least that one.

(Also, not an update, but something I realized: The main storyline would basically be the individual storyline if the main character was a love-interest)

One of the few ingame CGs! Well, just the WIP, of course. But hey, finally an update with a picture,

Quick update, since I never really do (sorry for that ^^° I’m just too lazy making screenshots every time I update)

2 of 10 individual storylines are finished, the third is almost done. I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but if I’ve calculated correctly, I should be done with them before the end of october AND still have some time for polishing. Depending on what else I come up with or if I decide to toss out ideas, that is.

Things that will make it into the game:
- An image at the end of the romance option’s storyline

Things that are still up to debate (whether it’s a time issue or a programming one):
- CGs for certain memories in the main storyline
- A gallery for the end CGs

Things that will most likely not be in the game anymore:
- Collecting memories of the villagers. I realized that many of those memories are already discussed or mentioned in the dialogue, so there shouldn’t be any need for extra CGs.

So yeah, I hope I’ll be able to post a proper update soon ^^°

I know it’s been quite a while, but I’m still working on the game^^ I guess I’m just too shy to show in-development stuff ^^°

At any rate, I’ve made huge progress!
I’ve finished the main story line!

That said, I don’t want to upload a demo with the complete story line, so updates will still be very few. I might upload some character portraits in the future, just to keep you guys updated.

I’ve also changed a few things:
- I tossed out the day and night system. As it turns out, it was pretty much useless and only gave me more trouble than it was worth. Also means no in-game time.
- I’ve come up with the idea of you being able to collect memories of the villagers. (And your own). I’m still not sure if I should make special CGs for that or just make a description.

The things I’ll focus on now are the story-lines for each character. Mainly the love-interests. I hope it won’t cause me too many problems^^°

Finally a new demo!

These are the new additions:
-More character portraits
-A tutorial battle and the first area with shadowbeasts
-The start of the main storyline! (Not just the introduction of the characters)
-A taste of the general interactions between characters
-A day and night system
-Polished the graphics a little

What will come in the future:
-More balanced battles
-A crafting system
-The continuation of the main storyline
-The ability to increase (and decrease) affection
-Dialogue that changes with the affection and “heart events”

So far things are going pretty smoothly. If I’m able to keep this pace, I’ll be able to release the full game around Halloween.

Here’s the new demo:

I know I said I’d update weekly, but for the past weeks I’ve been working on polishing the demo and adding all the character portraits. I’ve also finally made a proper title screen XD

My next step will be writing down all the random dialogue the characters have throughout the game. Once that is done, I will upload a new, better demo. At any rate, this is the progress for now:

Art: ~75% (Portraits are there, Cutscenes will come later)
Music: ~90% (All the locations have their own BGM, I still need a few things for scenes though. Some tracks might be switched as well)
Writing: ~45% (The rough plotlines are written down, the random dialogue still has to be written and the special events need dialogue as well)
Events: ~30% (The events in the demo are more or less done, the rest has to wait until I wrote the dialogues)
Gameplay: ~75% (All the features have been tested, they just need some details and polish)

So far, I’m pretty confident I can make it until Halloween^^

As I’ve stated in the Hiatus post, I might make other smaller games during that time. Just like now! Well, I had this project for a while, I just didn’t really work on it…
But now I want to put some more effort in it and share it with the world! It will also help me practice running an actual devlog XD
So, without further ado, I present you:

Reap what you sow.
It’s a small game inspired by Harvest Moon and Rune Factory. I’m planning putting the focus on character interaction, story and a dating mechanic like the ones in the games mentioned. There is a farming mechanic, but due to the limitation of the RPG Maker (and my lack of knowledge in scripting^^°) it will be quite simple. You will also get to fight battles with an easy to use Rock-Paper-Scissors system. I might flesh these out later, but for now, I’m focusing on what I can do best: Art and storytelling.

There isn’t much I can show yet, since a lot of things are still placeholders, but I did put together a demo. It will be in the link below, together with more info and screenshots:
https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/rse-reap-what-you-sow-demo.108345/#post-964700
I will also update as regularly as I can, at least once a week.

At any rate, I’m looking forward to work more on it and I’m planning on releasing it Halloween this year (2019).

Despite saying we’re on hiatus, the IGMC sounded too good not to enter. And so, ever since the start of the month, we’ve been working hard on a little game. And now we can finally show a little preview!

Northstar Tales proudly presents

In this game, you’re playingAmy,a girl that just recently bought an old cafè and wants to bring it back to its former beauty. She knew it’s not going to be easy, but when she wakes up at night, she suddenly finds herself in a different shop! From then on, she has to manage two jobs, one serving customers, and one dealing with the emotions of others.

There’s a festival going on!

We might not have gotten a mapper, but we’re still working hard on the game. ^^

Post link

So far the story has been written down, characters are done, gameplay has been tested. Now we’re planning on putting everything togther.
Butthere is one problem: Neither of us is good at mapping. So we are now officially looking for a mapper!

The tasks of our mapper would be split into three groups: Nature,DungeonsandTowns. (You don’t need to be perfect at all of these, though)
Right now, the most important maps we’d need are the towns.

Of course, you won’t need to work for free. While we can’t pay you with real money, we are ready to trade our skills. Meaning: If you need an artist, writer or even just atester, we will be able to do that for you.
(Examples of art: https://blackrosemii.deviantart.com/)

So if you’re interested, please make sure you are able to work with Rpg Maker VX Ace’s mapping and/or parallax mapping. Then you can send us a message (via ask or chat) and show us some of your examples. There we can negotiate about what kind of service you need and we’ll provide you with the necessary references you’ll need.

I look forward to getting positive responses^^
