After a conversation with Sharon, Steve, and Sam at the prison, you realize that you don’t want to sign them. Now you, Steve, Sam, and Bucky are on a mission to get to the Leipzig airport…in the tiniest car imaginable…so you can clear Bucky’s name.
A/N: Shout out to @wiintersheroand@lovelylittleraindrop for putting up with my overthinking ass. I found an inconsistency and talked their ears off for nearly a whole afternoon trying to get this figured out. But I decided, FUCK IT! I wanted to write it this way, so that’s what I’m doing! I hope you guys like this new drabble series!!! Please send me feedback, it makes my day!

Prequel

The smell of metal stained your tongue and throat. It was much colder in the warehouse than it was outside. The cold, concrete walls did nothing more than shield you, Steve, Sam, and Bucky from government eyes.

But, then again, you didn’t need these walls to do anything more than that.

A quiet sigh resounds from beside you. Sam has his arms crossed over his chest, his face neutral and pensive. “Didn’t think you’d want to tarnish your reputation as America’s sweetheart, Y/N.”

You snort and Sam laughs quietly with you. Your heart breaks when you realize you haven’t seen a smile on his face in a while. “Well, it was unavoidable. Sometimes you gotta break some eggs.” You smile at him fondly. Sam’s grin disappears once his eyes land on Bucky once more. The super soldier is still passed out from the helicopter fall, his vibranium arm is trapped in a machine just in case he’s still in Winter Soldier mode. “I never wanted to sign the Accords. It made sense to, but it didn’t feel right.”

Sam nodded solemnly, and looked you over again. His eyes stopped at your neck, looking over the bruises that were blooming there. He turned towards you and lifted your chin gently to get a better look. “Shit, he did a real number on you, didn’t he?”

Your eyes dart over to Bucky before answering, “This is nothing. I’ve suffered worse.”

Sam rolls his eyes. “You sound like Tony.”

You push a humorless laugh through your nose. “And you. Steve, too. We’re all just  masochistic jerks.” You know your smile isn’t real, and that Sam will see right through it, but you try anyway. “Tony’s doing what he thinks is right, Sam.”

“Yeah? What do you think?”

You stop and think for a moment. What do you think? Your head is still spinning from the last couple of days. Everything went to hell in a handbasket in the blink of an eye. You sigh heavily, and give him the only answer that makes sense. “I think Bucky’s innocent.”

Sam looks at you questioningly; but before he can ask you about it, Bucky’s waking slowly. He picks up his head, groaning quietly, as he assesses his surroundings.

Sam licks his lip before calling out for your friend. “Steve.”
