one of the sweetest things about the slow burn between mulder and scully for me is how gentle it is. there isnt the trope of them pretending to hate each other to cover up that they have feelings for each other. they never choose to hide that they care about the other, because from the moment they meet they decide that knowing the other cares is more important than needing to hide how they feel. even if they never express in words what the other means to them, they choose to show it from the very beginning. they trust and care for each other so kindly, without needing to pretend those facts aren’t true. i just love that they chose that route, rather than the one we see in a lot of other slow burn stories where they pretend to not like each other, or tease or are unkind to the other for fear of revealing what they truly feel. even when they’re hesitant to allow themselves to feel what they feel, it’s something internal: they’re afraid of wanting something more than they think they’re allowed, but it never stops them from expressing care for the other. there is shyness at times (which is also something so sweet about them!!) but they don’t give into fear of being figured out by the other, because they know that being figured out is an act of love in itself. they always make the choice that the other knowing how important they are is more important than their own insecurities or hesitance about having fallen into something so deeply and quickly.
