Like. People can really ask someone to go out and work a field 70 hours a week, and not even pay them overtime. You’d get 70 hours of minimum wage.
I’ve been in agriculture my whole life and while I am salaried now, every job where I was an hourly, I got paid overtime after 40 hours. AND YOU’RE TELLING ME THAT WASN’T LEGALLY REQUIRED AND I’VE JUST LUCKED OUT ON THE COMPANIES I’VE WORKED FOR THIS WHOLE TIME?
And only like five states have decided “hey that’s bullshit so we’re gonna actually pay overtime” but they are “PHASING IT IN” which means this year they pay overtime after 55 hours?? And then 2023 they’ll pay overtime after 48??? Bro????
The current minimum wage for all employees in NYC is $15.00 per hour, and it’s $13.00 per hour if you work on Long Island or in Westchester, and the state minimum wage is $11.80 per hour if you work anywhere else in NY.
If you work in NYC and you’re earning less than $58,500 per year or you’re not a professional, executive or supervisory administrative employee, then you’re entitled to be paid overtime pay. It doesn’t matter if you’re a salaried employee and considered “exempt” from overtime by your company, if you work in NYC and earn less than 58.5K and are not working in a professional “executive or managerial administrative capacity, then you’re non-exempt and entitled to overtime pay.
If you work on Long Island or in Westchester County, your annual salary must be at least $50,700. to make you exempt from overtime, and if you work anywhere else in NY state your salary must be at least $46,020 per year before you’re considered exempt from the overtime pay law.
You must also be considered a professional, executive or managerial administrative employee in addition to meeting the above salary minimums.
The Minimum Wage rates are scheduled to increase each year on 12/31 until they reach $15.00 per hour. Employers must post a Minimum Wage Information poster in their establishment.
employers, i mean big corporations, and i include any big box store, gas stations, chain restaurants, etc, don’t want to give you holidays. i don’t mean vacation. i mean statutory holidays where if you are full time and working on that day you have to be paid double time or depending on the area time and a half because you are working on a holiday. and you get paid for that day anyway because it is a statuory holiday.
so when other holidays for other cultures are like, hey can’t we also get a government holiday you will get a lot of propaganda about culture wars etc because every private corporation doesn’t want to pay workers for time off and if they want their store open they have to pay their employees more. and like ppl buy into this because oh well we shouldn’t have every holiday and i am like, WHY CAN’T WE? like we already work in a dystopia
like srsly, we work way too much. and weekends are spent trying to catch up on everything you couldn’t do when you were working, that includes laundry, cooking, spending time with family, cleaning and just every chore.
so why can’t jewish holidays be statutory? or muslim holidays? we would all be winners, i used to volunteer to work on canada day because i would get more money and i didn’t have plans. it would incentivize workers who wanted extra cash but also let workers have paid time off to spend important days with their loved ones
