my brain hurts too much to clean this up but i like the general idea

it was a nail biting third period when Calgary tied it up but the home ice advantage came through for us. It means Edmonton just needs to win one more game to leave Calgary in the dust… but I won’t risk too much hubris and mention that Calgary could also win the next two games and tie it back up again.

Also - Gretzky doesn’t usually have a barricade but on Sunday apparently people were riding the cup so during playoff games he’s going to have a little forcefield :’ )

We’re playing La Bamba when we win because it was a favourite of 80s-era locker room attendant Joey Moss who passed away recently.

Poor Calvin, condemned to take public transit and dust off his bicycle! I guess Red is going to have to drive him home…

update changed reds jacket because i was informed it resembled a h*bs jersey >:C

i spent all victoria day in the garden and getting dirt everywhere so calvin does too hehehe. May Long weekend is supposedly the start of summer in Alberta, but in Edmonton at least its the point at which its usually safe to start putting plants in the ground without worrying about frost.

he’s fighting ed’s other nemesis (creeping bellflower)

also calvin may be slightly allergic to black hats because he lives in a western at all times and he is a white hat man thank you very much

finally: edward does not have a specific address but i did decide he lives Somewhere in Oliver probably

oh and shawgers and belus is a joke i stole from the irrelevant show because canada’s 4 telecom companies are basically merged evil entities at this point.

I wanted to finish this before the game but its Fine. i left it ambiguous in Case.

i suppose the unsatisfactory result will determine how i explain the monstrosity that those of you who already know won’t be surprised by.

To non-Canadians and those who don’t pay close attention to Alberta Happenings, I apologize in advance on behalf of a city i don’t even represent due to its reprehensible decisions.

and again for non canadians: kd = kraft dinner which is our version of the boxed mac and cheese (and all its neon orange glory). In Canada it’s typically eaten with ketchup (which at least in my experience was considered weird in the US)

edit: i also forgot to add that they are sporting playoff beards. Not shaving during the playoffs until one’s team is eliminated is a very important tradition/superstition that started in the NHL in the 80s. Any asks answered during the playoffs will reflect this so long as I remember to draw them.

the main 3 (QEII gang?) in their corporate branding colour palettes because i have no life and bizarre hobbies.

Calgary and Edmonton don’t have names or specific feelings behind their chosen colours but according to Red Deer’s branding page, red symbolizes “strength and energy” and fawn symbolizes “consistency and credibility”. (Calgary just refers to all four core colours as “strong, bold, and dependable”.) (Edmonton’s brand guide doesn’t refer directly to the meaning of the colour blue, but it does suggest in the introduction that the river and oilers jerseys play a role in addition to wanting to evoke “creativity, innovation, risk taking, invention” which tend to be “blue” coded words in colour theory)

Technically both Red and Ed have white as part of their colours I think, but since they weren’t mentioned in the palettes I didn’t save them to mine.

just a little update to let you know i’m paying attentionnnn

the early bets mostly involve food it seems… when we get closer to 3 wins i assume the bets get a bit more intense?

anyway the next two games are in Edmonton (meaning Red gets to choose who to drive up with first, I suppose)

red couldnt be at the game because once in a while she’s a smart person who would rather have calvins penthouse to herself to watch the game for free.

if anyone has any idea what they did in Calgary after the end of this comic up to tonights game i want to know.
