Eyes rolling, Céleste let out a laugh. “That’s not a very high bar to set, is it? I’ve been kinda just vibing along with everything that’s been happening lately, whatever,” she replied as she grabbed a menu. “Just focusing on making a bunch of covers to post later on. Some of them are pretty awful with the lack of inspiration y’know but I guess it’s somewhat? hopefully? maybe? coming together.” She shrugged. “You?”

Sure, they had just met recently, but Céleste felt totally at ease with Eric. They sure as hell made great venting buddies; close enough to feel comfortable to info dump without scaring the other person away (the best benefit of being related), but their age gap allowed for different perspectives.

Céleste jokingly put on an angry face, “You better: don’t let that sleep debt catch up to you.” She quickly scanned the menu. Seeing that nothing interested her, she put down her menu. “I’m awful at ordering food: there are soo many options,” she finally said. “Any suggestions?”

eric’s always interested to hear about what céleste gets up to, especially when it comes to covers - he likes anything musically creative, though he himself never has much to show in that area other than school work, since he’d never show anyone the stuff he works on for himself - he’s far too embarrassed, since a lot of it’s sappy and emotional and romantic. trust a guy who’ve never been in a relationship to write romantic songs. “i always say that doing something, even if it’s not perfect, if better than doing nothing at all.” he fiddles with the case on his phone as he speaks, looking off across the room for a moment, then back at céleste with a smile.

“i had a pretty busy day as usual. did uni work, filmed some stuff for tiktok - y’know, gotta keep the fans fed.” he laughs, knowing full well he doesn’t have fans, even if he does have close to a million followers on tiktok, that doesn’t mean he’s got fans. “mostly i sorted out stuff for uni, it’s getting pretty busy now, but i’ve settled into the rhythm of it at least.” he’d only been at uni since march, but was already feeling the deep-set exhaustion that comes with working your brain constantly for months at a time.

“i’ll try, but i’ve got to be up early every day for work. oh the woes of poor people.” he says with a dramatic sigh. then, looking over the menu again he hums. “i usually just get the box of different types of fried chicken, since i can never decide whether i want like… sweet or spicy or somewhere in between.”

Céleste grinned when she got Eric’s invite for one of their customary rants over food. It was a weird family tradition between the two, but hey, it worked for them. Plus, it made a good excuse to go out for cheap food and rant about school and life in general. And boy did Céleste have a lot to complain about these days.

Her parents already knew about the meetup so Céleste grabbed a jacket and a small purse to hold her phone and T-money card before heading out. The meetup location, a small fried chicken place, was an okay distance away. She had planned to arrive there just on time, but got sidetracked and so was a tad late.

Céleste plopped onto the chair right across Eric, dropping her purse on the chair beside her. “I feel like my feet are falling off they’re so tired. How’re you doing?”

it’s been a while since they last got to do this, and eric has a lot to tell céleste. but, he decides that can all wait until he’s found out how she’s doing first. what kind of older cousin would he be if he didn’t put his little cousin first? as she arrives he breaks into a smile, reminded suddenly of how lucky he feels to have found out he’s got all these cousins all over the place he didn’t even know about until arriving in seoul.

“i’m doing good, better than your feet i imagine.” he says with a light laugh, setting down the menu he’d been reading. “what’ve you been up to today?” he asks casually, slipping easily into conversation with her. that’s the benefit of family, he thinks, you can just talk to them easily because you can’t scare them away the same way you can people with no familial ties to you.

“i’ve had a long day, as usual. i’m ready to go home and sleep.” his body aches, as it usually does after a day of being up on his feet for hours, rushing about getting everything that he needed done done. “pick what you want to eat quickly so we can order, i’m starving.” he slides a menu across the table to her, thinking about his own order - he’ll probably get his usual spicy fried chicken with a couple sides.

starter for @rkyoojimin!

eric always looks forward to these dinners with céleste. he gets to unload all the stuff that’s bothering him onto someone else who can’t ditch him because they’re family, even if distant family. plus, he listens to all her complaints too, so it’s a mutual thing. he’d just finished studying and filming some new tiktoks and taking pictures for instagram, so had had a pretty relaxed but productive day, and felt much in need of a good dinner and some socialising.

the fried chicken place isn’t too far from his apartment, so it doesn’t take long for him to get there, having thrown on some proper clothes after sitting in his boxers and a tank top for the portion of the day he wasn’t filming or taking pictures in. it’s still pretty light outside when he walks to the chicken place, hands thrust into his hoodie pockets. this is why he likes the summer - the days are so long he feels like he can fit so much into them.

he arrives before céleste and sits himself down at a table, perusing the menu of all the different fried chicken dishes and the variety of sides, trying to turn his brain off from all the other things he’s got to worry about, like school, and work. he’s ready to just relax and unload.
