Recruitment day grins! One of my favorite days of the year. We invite domestic students that already have offers to our PhD program to come to campus for a day of information and fun.

As president of my departments grad student association I’m in charge of planning several events and making sure there’s lots of other current students around to mingle and answer questions. ‍‍

This year the grad students were involved with the following:

small dinner the night before for any students already in town.
.
breakfast and lunch together in the department
.
‍ a small poster session that went really well. It was a fun way to chat and show off the huge range of research
.
‍♀️‍♂️‍♀️‍♂️ a panel for questions and discussion of life, climate, and diversity in State College, PA
.
a gorgeous day for a tour all around campus
.
Dinner in town followed by dessert and drinks at a faculty members’ house nearby (walkable to restaurant and their hotel)

I’m really proud of how well this visit goes every year. I was swayed to join the program here durning my own visit and have been involved every year since. Do your departments have similar events? If your GSA wants to get more involved I’d love to chat and provide tips!
