Tucked in the Cradle of Forestry near the Blue Ridge Parkway off Highway 276, a rare mountain bog ecosystem exists called Pink Beds. This loop hike takes you through uniquely diverse landscapes shifting from rhododendron covered trails to open meadows to forests, over footbridges and fallen trees, through creeks and across long expanses of boardwalks that are reminiscent of being in a coastal area.  It is a thriving area for wildlife and the hard work of the local beavers is pretty evident in this ever changing, magical place.

We were ecstatic to have such a lovely day to hit the trail. Pink Beds Loop Hike was the perfect trek at around 5 miles, taking us through wooded trails, rare mountain bogs, and through some lovely streams.  The trout lilies are starting to bloom, and soon the trillium, mountain laurel and rhododendron will be blooming as well, so we will have to plan another visit soon.

Have you experienced the unique Pink Beds Loop trail?  This 5 mile loop is unlike any I have gotten to explore.  It is a high elevation mountain bog that rests in a relatively flat valley where the South Fork of the Mills River becomes one of the larger tributaries in the French Broad River system. This one of a kind place near Brevard, North Carolina is definitely worth a visit.
