Part 1  Part 2

I walk out of the ship Jack running up to me as soon as her eyes land on me.

“Are you okay?” She asks looking up at me.

“I’ve been through worse than just getting cuffed to the floor.” I say smiling at her.

She grins and nods at me. She is not able to reply due to Johns calling everyone’s attention.

He wanted all of us to go to the hole Zek dug.

Maybe it was because I knew what to expect but I swore I could smell blood before we even reached it.

“Alright Snow put this on.” Johns says, handing me a rope.

“Excuse me?” I ask, lifting any eyebrow looking at him.

“You’re going into the hole.”

“No I am not.” I say as I cross my arms.

“Yes you are.”

“Sorry I was told to stay above ground so I think I’ll follow that order instead.”

“Who-.”

“I’ll go.” Carolyn, says interrupting Johns. Most likely expecting another argument to come from us.

“There ya go.” I say waving towards her.

“A woman doing your job just the way you like it”

“That’s enough.” Carolyn says snatching the rope from Johns and begins to tie it around herself.

I stand there in the heat watching as she slowly crawls into the hole. My stomach was in knots but I couldn’t understand why.

I’m sure I most likely looked like a child pouting but I didn’t care. When someone like Riddick. Someone who seemed more animal than human tells you to do something you should probably listen to them. I was on the outside of the group now. Because of what I did. I didn’t understand how defending a man from getting ganged up on was the wrong thing but my morals were never right I guess.

Growing up in the alleyways of the worst planet out there made me less than normal I guess.

My head snaps to the left when I hear a scream. My eyes snap to Jack making sure she is alright then I see her standing just a few feet from me. I relax.

“Did you hear that?” I ask, looking at the others.

“Hear what?” Johns asks, glaring at me.

“I thought I heard screaming.” I say ready to dismiss it, until I hear it again.

“I heard it.” Jack says looking at me worries in her eyes.

“Let’s go check it out.” I say starting to walk towards it.

“No one is-.”

“Oh just shut it Johns. I’ll be right back.” I say cutting him off.

I follow the sound of screams picking up my pace as they get louder. When I reach what looks like a stalagmight sticking out from the ground I’m a bit confused till I hear Caroyln scream inside it.

“Hand me that bone Jack.” I say pointing towards a dicared large bone on the ground.

Taking it from Jack I start to hit the rock glad when it starts to crumble. I hit it again, the others joining me.

“Let me do it.” Johns says pulling me out of the way.

A frustrated growl leaves my throat, shocking me and Jack.

‘When did I start growling?’ I think to myself.

Johns brakes open the rock just in time to get the Caption out. I jump when I watch her get pulled back in for a moment. Whatever was down there wanted her bad.

“Cut the rope!” She screams trying to claw her way out.

I move closer grabbing onto her as Johns does exactly what she asked. With the loss of tension I fall back pulling her on top of me.

“Ow.” I groan out softly.

“Are you okay?” Jack asks, dropping down next to us.

I start to answer but realize she’s not talking to me.

“I heard you screaming.” She says helping Caroyln up.

I get to my feet watching the others surround her, then walking back towards the ship. My stomach twists in a familiar way. Being forgotten or left alone was something I was used to. What I couldn’t understand was why it was happening now.

I follow behind them my mind full of questions. Once we reached the ship Johns went inside most likely to pick at Riddick. I at first stayed outside trying to enjoy what little breeze there was but my curiosity got the better of me.

Jack was fine, she was next to Caroyln so I didn’t worry about walking into the ship. My heart jumped as soon as I heard the sound of a gunshot popping off. It makes me stop in my tracks.

I don’t know why but my first thought was worry for Riddick.

Of course I would worry about the murder on the ship and not the cop. But I couldn’t diene the pull I had towards Riddick.

I started to walk again wanting to know exactly what happened but I didn’t want to rush into anything. I once again stopped when Riddick came walking towards me.

He was angry his whole damaer would scare anyone away from him. So why did his eyes soften when they met mine? For just a second they locked with mine then they were gone covered up by his goggles and he was gone, seeming to disappear the moment he passed me.

I take a shaky breath not realizing I was holding it and turn around to face the exit. I had more questions than answers at this point and it was starting to make my head hurt.

It also didn’t help that I was dehydrated and tired. The heat made it seem impossible to want to do anything.

Hearing footsteps behind me I look over my shoulder seeing Johns walking towards me. I quickly head outside not wanting to be around him.

As soon as I stepped out into the son I could hear whispers but they for once were not about me.

I look over at Sharon talking to Jack and Carolyn. I was just out of ear shot but I was pretty sure I knew what or who they were talking about.

Everyone was suddenly on edge again. I could understand why. Rddick was the villain in this story. Johns was the hero. That’s why everyone jumped to look at him when he called out.

“Alright everyone let’s go!” He says while heading off into the desert as if he knew where he was going.

Despite watching Jack fall in line with Sharon. I couldn’t seem to make my feet move until Riddick walked past me.

Even though he was wearing goggles I could tell he was looking at me, even  through me maybe. He jerked his chin forward so slightly I thought I may have imagined it. Yet I got in line in front of him and started walking. Us, the last two, once again separated from the group.

We walked for what seemed like hours, the heat of three suns bearing down on us. All the while Riddick pulled a power cell behind him as if it weighed nothing. I think it was the sand catching the thing then the weight of it that kept him in the back of the line.

Or maybe he chose to stay there, so he could watch everyone. Well watch Johns rather. I didn’t blame him. He was on my hit list too.

As we walked I fell more behind walking next to Riddick more than in front of him. Maybe it was to see what he was seeing or maybe it was just because since I landed on this rock I felt more comfortable around him then I did anyone. Even Jack.

Her bouncing between hanging out with Carolyn and Sharon since we got here.

I didn’t mind it. She was a teenager wanting to make new friends. It wasn’t like she owed me anything. If I was honest I’ve only known her a few years.

It was cold out. Colder than it has been for a long time. Every breath I took made my teeth hurt. Despite that I took another breath trying to warm up my hands. To make them feel alive again. I should get up from crouching in this trash filled alley way but I didn’t see the point. I was broken. More broken than I have been in a while. Being used just to get thrown out into the streets once again makes you lose a part of yourself each time. I was tired. Tired of trying to fit in to act like everyone else. I wasn’t like everyone else. I was something… different. I couldn’t explain it. I had better instincts than everyone. I always knew when things were gonna go bad.

Others always seemed to stay away from me. I blamed it on my attitude, my smart mouth. But I knew the truth. That deep inside me there was just something that made people uncomfortable. People treated me like a wild animal. Either hostile or afraid. So once again I was alone on the outskirts of civilization. But it seemed that’s exactly where I was meant to bed.

My head snapped up to the sound of running feet. The slapping sound of worn down shoes on frozen ground.

Looking to the left I watch a child running for her life holding something wrapped up in her arms. A large man behind her, him more hair than a man screaming at her to come back. Yelling that she was a thief.

As they ran past me the sweet smell of fresh bread filled my nose, everything clicking together. She stole food, she was hungry. I had that primal urge to protect her. The primal side of me flaring up the older I got.

I stuck my foot out tripping the guy, while also pushing myself to my feet. The girl stopped turning to see what was going on, her ragged breathing hard from a yard away.

The man stood up, him standing well over my head.

“What do you think you’re doing?” He said through clenched teeth. His lip busted from the fall.

“Leave her alone.” I say calmly not looking for a fight.

“Are you two in this together? She steals food and you beat up the honest owner of it?” He asks, cocking his head, his fist balling up.

“No. But she’s hungry so leave her be. You’ll make it, she might not.” I say moving to go sit down where I was.

I’m stopped by a very tight grip wrapping around my arm. The man jerked me back into him.

“Now you listen here you-.”

That was the last thing I heard before I went numb.  Before everything seemed to turn off. Everything that kept me in control.

When everything turns back to normal, I’m not surprised to find a body at my feet.

That always happened, when I blacked out. But what I didn’t expect was that the girl was still there.

Her slowly inching towards me, an outstretched hand holding a hunk of bread. Caution clear on her face but there was something in her eyes. Fascination.

“Thank you.” She says gently as I take the bread from her. My stomach is very empty.

“You’re welcome.” I say nodding my head.

I once again return to my place on the ground. Surprised once again when she moves to sit next to me.

“Hi, I’m Jack.”
