letsrespectpixivartist:

So…because a lot of infos of this blog is on pages, and I just noticed that tumblr mobile doesnt show pages link, let me present the complete links of this blogs post :

1. This blog’s first and main post.

Explaining all important Q/As regarding the importance of ‘Asking for reposting permission’ issue.

1a. So how do I obtain reposting/translating/editing arts permission?

1b. I only like/reblog and never repost. Do I have to join this too?

1c. So you only concern about Pixiv and not other sites??

2. Why is this ‘Asking artist for reposting permission’ necessary?

3. Why do you keep asking me about my ‘unauthorized’ posts??

4. Can I support this movement too?

5. Can I change my blogging habit gradually in baby steps?

6. I want to report those unauthorized reposters!

7. Do you have a list of authorized pixiv bloggers?

8. Can you help me translating this?

Well… I’m afraid I’m not the best to handle such question ^^; My Japanese language is so basic but you can ask raspomme who can handle such questions expertly :) (And please be sure to read her FAQ before asking her! ^^)

And last but not least, here’s my ‘answering policy’ on this blog:

Dear everyone who wants to ask me anything, just know that:

1. I will always answer you privately,

2. I also put my answer to your Qs here (it’s a page and can only be seen on browser) just in case Tumblr message failed and my response doesnt send to you (by leaving out the asker/ any identity in the message of course, dont worry)

So if I dont respond to you in 1 week, just check this page first, and if your Q is not there, just ask me again.

3.I will never ignore any message/username, you can count me on that.

4. I swear I wont caption your answer anywhere, our conversation will stay between both of us only, you can trust me. So I really hope you can be honest with me :)

The reason why I want to list these blogs is because I want to keep encouraging and supporting those bloggers to keep doing that respectful habit :) (And maybe you can do the same thing too by following them or shoot them a nice asks/fanmail! :) )

Which basically just you reporting to the artist of a tumblr post that’s unauthorized, and asking the artist to report to tumblr. And you also offer to report to tumblr on behalf of the artist if the artist replied with ‘I give you autorithy to contact tumblr to delete the post’ :)

2.If the artist has twitter, you can send them this tweet:

@artist_twitter さん, すみません, あなたのPixivに私(your pixiv nickname)のメッセージをお読みくださいすることができますか?重要と思います。どうもありがとうございます! (^ ^)

which just means: please check my message on your pixiv inbox because it’s important :) If the artist is active in twitter, I can assure you to get reply within 1-2 days :D

And if the artist finally replied with some lines like ‘please tell tumblr to delete that post’, then you can :

1.Screencap your pixiv message with that artist, and make a red square around the artist statement that said ‘please tell tumblr to delete that post’

2.Upload that screencap on an image host, or maybe your dropbox, and copy the screencap image link

3. go to https://www.tumblr.com/dmca , and on ‘description of the work’ field, please add these lines:

——————

I’m authorized on the artist behalf to report this. Here’s my proof:

[your pixiv message screencap link]

Here is the artist statement on that screencap:

[The artist statement that you’re authorized to report to tumblr on their behalf]

And here’s the artist profile:

[Artist profile URL]

——————-

4. If tumblr replied to you with some letters that says you have to be authorized as the representative of the artist to report to dmca, just reply that email with some response like this, with attachment of the screenshot of your pixiv message:

——————-

Actually yes, I’ve sent a proof that I’m authorized as the behalf of the artist. You can see it on the image I attached, it’s a conversation I had with the artist reporting about the unauthorized tumblr posts that contain her arts. It’s a conversation from pixiv message I sent her, in which I tell them about a tumbr user who post her arts without her permission. And because the artist is japanese, let me translated the text that I blocked in red square:

[Artist statement in japanese]

[The translated bits in english]

Does that screenshot not suffice to prove that I’m authorized on behalf of the artist to request those posts’ deletion? In the conversation attached, I’ve asked the artist to report to tumblr to take it down, but as I’ve said before, the artist replied in japanese that I should tell tumblr to delete it. I think the artist is reluctant to fill the form because she is not good at english, that’s why she asked me on her behalf to report this. If that screenshot is not enough as the proof of me authorized to speak on the artist behalf, would you mind telling me what other proof that I can provide to convince tumblr support? Thank you in advance.

5. Usually after step 3 or 4, tumblr will then report they have taken down the post….if they replied with other news, just reply to them accordingly ^^;

I actually only consider pixiv sites when making this blog (thus the blogs name), but it seems there’re other sites beside pixiv that prohibits reprinting.

If you have any other addition to this list, please do tell me via my askbox! ^^

1. Pixiv

2. Drawr

3. Tegaki.pipa.jp (implied)

4.DeviantArt / DA

5.Piapro

It’s okay my friend! We already know that old habits die hard. Maybe I can help you by pointing out some things you can change bit by bit on your blogging life. I’ll list it starting from the easiest one to the hardest one.

1. Stop posting / adding pixiv posts without the artist permission to your queue.

If you’ve posted some pixiv arts on your blog without the artist permission, and you’re still doing it, the least you can do is just stop posting / adding anymore pixiv posts to your queue.

But…I don’t have any queue? If I stop posting, I will lose my notes/followers gain!

Okay, just post arts from artist sites that clearly has ‘share on tumblr’ button. Or, just reblog arts from the original tumblr artist blog! :) Reblogging pixiv arts from other tumblr user is okay too, but pleas make sure there is ‘upload permission was given by the artist’ caption there. If that caption is not there…please post it privately or post it on your password-protected blog.

How about only liking a pixiv arts posts?

I personally think liking pixiv arts posted without the artist permission is the same as encouraging illegal the pixiv posters to keep posting them ilegally. So I really beg you to just reblog those illegal pixiv posts privately / on your password protected blog because the poster wont get any notification and notes for that.

2. Slow down your queue to just one per day, and start saving all of those pixiv arts posts without the artist permission on your queue as drafts

If your queue has too many posts or even full (about 300 posts if i’m not wrong?), firstly, just set your queue setting to just 1 post per day. Then, you can just saving them as drafts bit by bit everyday. Maybe only about 10 or even 50 per day? Or if you’re not busy, you can actually do it in just 1 day.

3. Try asking pixiv artists for posting permission with this guide

If you’re busy, you can try just asking 1 pixiv artist per day. Usually if you’re lucky, they will respond to you in under 1 day. But try doing this everyday, and for sure, those full posting permission will keep coming to your pixiv inbox!

4. When you’ve already gain 1 or more positive permissions from the pixiv artist..

Wow congrats buddy! Now you can start posting those arts on your blog! Dont forget to add ‘upload permission was given by the artist’ caption on your post, okay? :)

But…what if I just do this asking occassionaly? Meaning that while waiting for the artist response, I still keep posting other artist’s pixiv arts without their permission?

It’s okay! But just please be sure to add ‘Permission to upload was given by the artist’ on all posts that’s already given upload permission by the artist, okay? :) And try lessening the amount of those ‘uploaded without the artist permission pixiv posts’ on your blog gradually :)

(But I personally think it will be weird to post some pixiv posts with artist permission, and some without the artist permission…but asking pixiv artists for reposting permission just occasionally is still better than not even trying to ask them at all)

5. If you’ve already gotten your pace and the hang of this asking for pixiv artists for repost permission..

Then I think it’s time for you to post pixiv arts that only have been given upload permission by the artist! And stop posting any pixiv arts without the artist permission (which logically includes all of the deleted pixiv arts!) :)

If you really really want to post a beautiful pixiv arts but the source is already deleted….I’m begging you, just post it privately/on your password-protected blog okay? :)

6. Regarding those pixiv posts you already done without the artist permission..

This is optional but…..you can try marking them private a few posts everyday. Or reblog them to your password-protected blog and delete the one that’s on your public blog.

Or do this: Reblog them to your password-protected blog (I have two password-protected blogs, 1 for keeping source-deleted pixiv arts, and 1 for keeping pixiv arts that’s already posted by me without the artist permission). Then, ask the artist for reposting permission (if the art is still hosted on pixiv), and then reblog them again to your public blog when you’ve already got the reposted permission! And now, dont forget to add that ‘permission given’ caption when you reblog it back to your blog :)

But if you’ve already posted tons of posts and you’re busy….it’s okay to not do that. Just promise me you will always  ask the pixiv artist for posting permission before posting their arts on your blog okay? :)

That’s my advice for helping frequent pixiv posters who want to start changing their habit gradually. I hope you can find it useful.

If you ever have any questions / helps to support for starting this ‘asking repost permission from pixiv artists’, just shoot me an ask and I’ll reply to you ASAP :)

You saw a wild, beautiful pixiv arts on your dash! And you just love it so much that you must like and reblog it on your blog. But before doing that, please….

1. Make sure the post contains the source of that art!

Well, in tumblr, source for art is really really important, right?

2a. The source link is there BUT… there’s ‘Source Deleted’ / ‘Artist Deleted’ on that post!

Don’t like/reblog it, please? Just respect the artist and help them not spreading their arts ilegally (because it’s already deleted). But if you really, really want to reblog it, please see point 5.

But only liking them is alright?

Well, if you set your likes to be private, then it’s alright. But if it’s set to public, there will be a chance of others to see it, and then spread the posts by reblogging it, so don’t do it please?.

2b. The source link is there BUT… there’s NO ‘Permission to upload this was given by the artist’ line on that post!

Don’t like/reblog it, please?  Or if you want to make sure, just ask the poster first if they’ve already asked the artist first. (But I’m 99% sure if they’ve already got the artist’s permission to repost it they’ll put the ‘permission given’ caption on the post)

But if you really, really want to reblog it, please see point 5.

But only liking them is alright?

Well, if you set your likes to be private, then it’s alright. But if it’s set to public, there will be a chance of others to see it, and then spread the posts by reblogging it, so don’t do it please?.

3. The source link is there AND there’s ‘Permission to upload this was given by the artist’ line on that post!

Nice! You can now safely liking and reblogging it on your blog. But if you just want to make sure the source is right, just click the source link!

Oh and this is just a suggestion I’ve got from someone, but if you want to be 100% sure whether that ‘Permission given’ caption is valid or not, you can check the poster blog. If they have a ‘permission list’ page that lists artist’s which give them reposting permission, and even stated that ‘I’ll give you screenshot of message I got from the artist if you want to prove the validity of this list’, you can be 1000000% sure the ‘Upload permission given’ caption they give on their post is valid :).

4. I clicked the source link but…it states that the pixiv art is already deleted!

Well…just don’t like/reblog it. If you want to take it further, you can even send the poster via askbox/fanmail to take down the post because the pixiv art is already deleted.

5. You’ve already said dont like/reblog deleted/posted without permission pixiv arts on tumblr…But I really super duper like that art! I gotta save it on my tumblr!

Just please post it privately or post it on your password-protected blog, alright? It really helps to decrease the further spreading of deleted/posted without permission pixiv arts on tumblr. And you can still view the pixiv art on your tumblr personally!

6. Go back to point no. 1 again before liking/reblogging pixiv arts post on tumblr! :)

So…you want to post a pixiv art on your blog?

(I’m sorry this is kinda long but it contains all necessary knowledge I’ve gained to get positive response from the artist quickly and efficiently :) )

1. Search the source first with saucenao. Follow this or this guide if you don’t know how. Then, open the art and the artist link on your browser.

2. The Artist account is already deleted?

Just post it privately, or post it on your password-protected blog. You can enjoy the art personally, and not disobeying the pixiv rules. A win-win solution for you, the artist, and pixiv I might say :)

3. The art is already deleted..but the Artist still exists!

Still, do the step 2 please. Maybe you can politely ask the artist, but I dont think the answer will be positive (I’ve never done it so…take your risk).

4. Both the artist account and the art still exists!

Good! Make a pixiv account if you haven’t before (and it has to be made on pixiv.net, as far as I know, pixiv.com hasnt provided any messaging feature yet ^^;), and send the artist a message to ask for permission to repost their art on tumblr! You can see the template here if you only want to repost the art. If you want to find other template such as for using icon/translate/etc, you can find your template on this masterpost here. It’s really easy, just copy paste and edit 2-3 parts of the template, and then click send! Now you just have to wait for the artist’s response and hope for the best :)

And…maybe make sure the artist’s latest art’s date is still recent (today - 5 months ago)

Usually the artist whose latest art’s date is years ago wont reply to you at all because…it seems their account is already abandoned. But you can still ask them just to give it a try (I’ve done that before and sometimes the inactive artist did reply), but..I guess dont complain later if the artist doesnt reply to you at all ^^;

If the artist has twitter, you can send them this tweet:

@artist_twitter さん, すみません, あなたのPixivに私(your pixiv nickname)のメッセージをお読みくださいすることができますか?重要と思います。どうもありがとうございます! (^ ^)

which just means: please check my message on your pixiv inbox because it’s important :) If the artist is active in twitter, I can assure you to get reply within 1-2 days :D If the twitter is protected, just send them that tweet anyway, nothing to lose right? ^^

Oh oh oh and I finally made a modified template of that here:

The template is long, but it lists all possible replies from the artist, and you can expect:

-if the artist replied you with rejection/ask for each reprint, they will also update their profile with ‘do not reprint without my permission’ statement

all in one message! so…this is the most efficient way to ask pixiv artist I think

Oh and this is a template for reprinting only…if you want to use it for other needs, check this FAQ, find your template, and apply necessary modification to this  template.

Please replace _______ with the artist’s name and fill necessary fields.

——————————————————————

But…I want to avoid asking them if possible

The easiest thing to know the artist doesn’t want that particular art to be reposted outside of pixiv is by following the steps on this guide

And then you can also do these steps before asking them (Taken from here )

It’s best to be sure and just message, but if you’re really trying to avoid asking, then it is best to do the following before surely asking:

  1. Check their pixiv profile or blog profile where it says anything about redistribution. Usually just turning on the Google Translator will suffice, since it’s usually just a really simple sentence.
  2. Read the art description about redistribution. Turning on Google Translator will suffice as well as it’ll easily pick up.
  3. Check for these things: ※ These are kind of like Japanese asterisks, where they’re usually used as warnings or cautions and all that.
  4. If you’ve/someone else received a warning from an artist before saying that you’re not allowed to, please do notredistribute their art any more. Even if it they won’t be able to see it, doing it behind their back is downright rude. If it’s a rumor and you’re not sure, please message.

I’ve done all those steps but I can’t find any statement that explains the artist ‘reposting policy’

Well just ask them then! You cant just assume things right? Just ask them to cast off your worries! :)

————————

If you’re the type who only asks when the artist states ‘prohibits reprinting/unauthorized reprinting’ on their profile….

You see, there’re some artists who dont state anything against reprinting on profile but still reject when asked about reprinting.

The reason why is it so is because those artists dont know that they have to state it explicitly on their profile about reprinting refusal to prevent other pixiv users reprinting their art without their permission.

And sometimes it’s because they already know pixiv ToS clearly states ‘prohibits reprinting’, and that’s why they dont think it’s necessary to state such obvious thing on their profile.

You see, it’s like we already know robbing into someone’s house is clearly prohibited and against basic human right.

There’re some house that has big ‘No Robbing’ sign on their front, and there’re some without.

Then, you rob the house that has no ‘No Robbing’ sign because you assume they’re fine with robbing due to them not having that sign.

Do you see how wrong is that?

I’m not trying to say you’re 100% wrong….I just want to explain the flaw of you having such mindset.

So…even though asking occassionally is better than never asking at all, it’s still more respectful to always ask the artist first before reprinting, whether the profile states nothing against reprinting or not ^^

——————————

If you’re the type who post first, then ask later….

Your situation is more/less like this:

You found an interesting photo album of your fave celebrity, and then you copied it and post it on your neighborhood so anyone can see it.

After doing it, then you finally asked that celebrity:

“Hello Mr/Ms Celeb. I think your photos are very interesting so may I spread it on my neighborhood?”

Then you get some responses like these from the celebrity:

“Oh my…please dont spread those photos! It’s actually my private photos! So embarassing! >///<”

“I’m sorry but I want only people who visits my house that can have privilege to see my photo album ^^”

After that, you take down that photo album copies from your neighbourhood, but it’s already too late…your neighbors already copied it and spread it to other neighborhood.

And what’s worse is, your neighbors then think it’s okay to copy the celeb’s album and continue spreading that celebs photos.

Well…yeah, do you get the analogy now?

Of course what you do is better than never asking the artist at all, but I think it’s more respectful to post that art only after you’ve got the permission from the artist ^^;

5. Wait for the artist’s response…patiently

If you’re lucky, you can get the response within 1 day. But sometimes, it may take 2-3 days, and on the rare chance, it may take weeks. If you’re not patient enough, at least please wait 1 week before sending the same message to the same artist okay? Don’t terrorize them because we all want to get positive response from them, am I right?

I’ve been waiting for months, asking them every week….but still no reply

If the artist doesn’t reply even after months, you may want to check the last date of their posted art. If the latest art was posted years ago, well…you may want to stop waiting because maybe the account is already abandoned by the artist.

Or check their profile just like what I’ve stated before from here . Maybe they already updated their profile regarding their reposting policy.

6. Finally, the artist replied to you!

Nice! Just google translate if you dont understand japanese (like me), or read this guide. Or if you’ve got a reply in japanese that’s confusing and even google translate cant help you much, you can ask a generous blogger here anonymously and wait for their answer on here (it can only be seen on browser ^^). Usually she will reply in 1-2 days. But sometimes we know tumblr eats our ask, so if she doesnt reply after a few days you can send her the same ask again :)

7. So…I just got rejected by the artist :(

No worries, just ask other pixiv artists for permission! The more you ask the other artists, the more chance you will get positive response right? :) My experience is the chance of you got rejected is only about 40% (these posts are another proof I’m right!), so be optimistic! Ask other pixiv artists!

Oh and this is just a suggestion from a tumblr user, but I really think you should reply this to the artist who rejected you if the artist doesnt state anything against reposting / doesnt state that in english on their profile

[Your Name]

—————-—

The _________ must be replaced with the artist’s name, and [Your Name] must be replaced with your nickname in pixiv (if it isn’t obvious enough? ^^)

That message is basically you requesting the artist to update their pixiv profile with 2 lines that states ‘refusing reprint/edit/use illustration’ request :)

I think this is very beneficial so that more pixiv artists will be aware of the importance of adding ‘reprinting refusal’ statement on their profile to prevent other bloggers who doesnt ask for artist permission reprinting their arts ilegally on tumblr :)

(oh and yes I’ve used that template and all of them updated their profile immediately! :D)

8. Yay! They give me repost permission! ^^

Congrats! ^^ Now you can post that art on your blog, and dont forget to credit the artist by providing links to their profile and art. And don’t forget to add **Permission to upload this was given by the artist** on your post okay? It will help others to differentiate between tumblr pixiv posts with and without the artist permission.

Oh and please note of any other posting rule from the artist. Such as ‘please give me the url of your tumblr post’, or ‘please ask me again if you want to post other arts’, etc. And obey them okay? They have already give you permission to repost their hardwork so it’s just fair that you grant their requests.

9. I just got rejected by the artist but whatever, I’ll just add ‘permission given’ on my post. Nobody will know right :P

Don’t underestimate the power of the internet. Maybe you wont get caught right away, but you won’t know that someday, the artist’s friends, or even the artist’s themselves will notice your post and report you to tumblr staff for reposting their art ilegally.

Oh and, the genuine authorized pixiv bloggers can also notice whether your caption is legal or not. If they had been rejected by an artist, then they saw you posting the artist’s art with ‘permission given’ caption, they can just simply do this guide to report you to tumblr. And….if you have been reported to DMCA for multiple times…..Tumblr has stated clearly on their ToS that they:

In particular, Tumblr may immediately terminate or suspend Accounts that have been flagged for repeat copyright infringement.

Who knows, maybe your blog will end like the blog confronted with this blog . Just dont do that for the peace of your mind.

10. After getting response, dont forget to reply to the artist message!

Even if you got rejected. Just see this guide to reply accordingly to the response you’ve got from the artist. It’s only polite to do that.

11. Repeat to step 1 if you have more pixiv arts that you want to post! :)

Oh oh and I have a few tips for you so you can keep getting fast + positive reposting permissions everyday from the artist! ^^

1. Make sure the artist’s latest art’s date is still recent (today - 5 months ago)

2. Make sure the artist profile doesnt state anything like ‘Wont reply even if asked’

3. Ask frequently to different artists :) (I ask 10 different artists everyday and I always get 1-4 responses in one day ^^)

4. If the artist profile states: ‘Prohibits unauthorized reprinting’, it doesnt mean you will be rejected. Just ask them first and give it a try! ^^ (because I usually got an OK from those artists ^^)

And…1 more tips for you! I know it will sometimes irk you to see those unauthorized pixiv posts. If you want to take it further, you can:

5. Report them to tumblr with this guide

One more thing! There’s another step-by-step guide that’s more easy to read and complete with pics! :D

This is the awesome guide that I mean, (you have to see it on browser because it’s a blogs page okay ^^) made by this awesome blogger which has step-by-step guide, complete with pictures! :D

Be sure to thank her if you find the guide useful okay? ^^

—————————————————-

That’s all from me I guess!

Oh and If you’ve started posting authorized pixiv posts with ‘permission given’ caption, can you please notify me so I can add you to this list?

Good luck and I hope you can get positive response from the artist! ^^

You want to support me? Awesome! I really need support and help in any way! :D

What you can do to support this blog:

Passively:

Stop liking/reblogging pixiv arts tumblr post which has no ‘Permission to upload was given by the artist’ caption

Well, you can still reblog it, but mark it as private please. Or just make a new password-protected blog and reblog all of those ‘posted without artist permission pixiv posts’ there. It’s for the sake of decreasing this illegal distribution of pixiv arts on tumblr.

How about only liking it?

Yes, if you set your blog so that your liked posts cant be seen by others.

But even so, by liking the posts, you will indirectly support and encourage the poster to keep posting those pixiv posts without the artist permission. Who knows, if they notice the decrease of their notes/notifications on their pixiv posts, they’ll notice something’s wrong….or even stop posting those pixiv arts without asking the artist first.

So…I think reblogging it privately / on a password protected blog is better than liking them (Because the poster wont get notification if we did that).

Actively:

1. You can send asks to other tumblr users who repost pixiv arts without permission, explaining why is that important and encouraging them to start asking the pixiv artist’s permission first before reposting (politely, of course), or at least just encourage them to check this blog’s pages and read all of them (and hoping that they want to start doing this habit).

Politely, okay? If you dont have the courage to ask publicly, asking it anonymously is okay too! But I think asking publicly is better so that the poster will see that there are many different people asking them similar questions about pixiv arts reposting permission. And I think it will at the very least make them ponder and realize that pixiv artist permission is crucial to gain before reposting pixiv arts on their blog.

Oh! And if you’re too shy to do this with your account, you can shoot me an ask and I’ll give you my shadow-copy account so you can use that to ask those pixiv reposters! (but send the message with polite words okay ^^;;). I even provide a message template so you can just use that and modify it to fit your needs! ^^

2. Encourage your other tumblr friends who loves liking/reblogging pixiv arts on their blog to read this blog’s pages, especially this and this page (or just explain to them the main point of those posts).

3. Encourage/support the blogs that frequently posts pixiv arts with the artist permission which is listed here

Just send them encouraging words via their askbox/fanmail/submit box! Anonyomously is okay too! Because you see, I think those who keep posting ‘pixiv artist permission asking’ are really rare to find, and thanking them for setting the right example for other pixiv posters are the least we can do.

4. If you know any blog that always asks for pixiv artist’s permission before reposting, you can tell me via my askbox! I will ask them first and add them to this list if they agreed.

If you’ve done any of that and you need some appreciation for doing that, just shoot me an ask! I’ll respond privately and shows how grateful I am to you with many many virtual sugar and cookies! ^^

Are you just aiming at me? Are you jealous because I’m a popular blog?

No, I ask lots of other tumblr users who posts pixiv arts on their blog without the ‘permission given by the artist’ caption. And no, I couldn’t care less about your blog popularity. I just want to do pixiv artists a favor to stop you from spreading their arts on tumblr without their consent.

Why me? Just bother other frequent pixiv poster on tumblr!

Well, if I ask you, chances are I’ve already noticed you frequently post pixiv arts on your blog. And I really just want to make sure you already know that reposting pixiv arts without the artist permission is illegal, and you’ve already asked the artist for permission first before posting their art on your blog.

And of course, I will ask other frequent pixiv posters on tumblr too (not only you), if I know it. If you want to report to me any other blogger that’s also reposting pixiv arts without permission, just shoot me an ask, and I’ll also ask them the same questions I asked you.

On the low chance of me following your ‘right habit’, what difference it will make to this already corrupted tumblr?

Well…I can bet you’ve already gained hundreds or even thousands followers on your blog. And you’re a frequent posters. By frequently posting ‘permission given by the artist’ pixiv posts on tumblr, it will set the examples to your followers and other tumblr users who see your post of asking pixiv artist for permission first before reposting on tumblr. Your follower may even change their mindset about the ‘reposting pixiv arts without the artist permission is normal as long as you sourced the art’, and begin to also change their habit. If all of frequent pixiv posters also follow your examples, we can even wipe off that bad habit of reposting pixiv arts without the artist permission on tumblr.

Wait…so you will keep asking me until I changed my mind and following your ‘right habit’?

Well, I will only ask you at the very least 2 times, but it’s only if you respond privately to those asks

First ask is to know whether you already know that pixiv forbids reposting without their artist permission, and to please read all of my blogs’ pages and its main post here. If you’ve already done that and you still dont want to start asking for pixiv artist’s permission before reposting, just respond to my second ask with some lines which clearly states that you already know pixiv’s rules of illegal reposting, and nothing will change your mind to reposting pixiv arts without consent. Then I’ll get the message and I’ll stop asking you useless questions because it will be futile. And dont worry, I wont ever screencap your response and post it here. This is not a confrontation blog and I just want to at least try to change your mind, you know? You can be honest with me.

I will wait for a few days before asking you the same questions (So you won’t feel terrorized by me).

Please dont ignore my asks…please

If you keep ignoring my asks, I’ll just keep asking you the same questions for every few days. Chances are, you will then be bothered and list this blog on your ‘ignore’ list.

But before you choose to add this blog in your ‘ignore’ blog list…

It’s okay to do that, but please...before ignoring this blog, please…just please read all of this blog’s pages, and its main post here. And just tell me whether you want to start this habit or you wont do it however many asks I will send you so that I wont pester you anymore. Thank you.

Okay, I know that most of you who already got messages for me, or just reading my post will be questoning why, why, and why is asking for pixiv artist permission is important before posting them?

Isn’t sourcing them on your post already enough?

No. Unfortunately, for pixiv arts, it’s not enough.

And No, you cant just go assuming all pixiv artists will love seeing their arts get noticed on western site. That you’re doing ‘free advertisement’ for them and they should be grateful for you by reposting their art on tumblr, even without their consent.

Okay, there are a few reasons why asking pixiv artist permission before posting it is really crucial and needed.

1. Pixiv already stated it’s illegal to repost pixiv arts without the artist’s permission

You want proof? See this post

or here is a picture from this post

2. Many japanese pixiv artists find reposting pixiv arts on tumblr without their permission is rude and disturbing.

You can see a list of tumblr posts which state why I can say so below (I’ll copy paste lines that states some of their opinions:

http://misty-moon-night.tumblr.com/post/28682129866/important-please-read

These are some pixiv artists’ rant on their twitter regarding reposting their art without permission.

Please, seriously, stop reposting pictures without permission. What you are reposting in a few minutes, is a work that I have taken many hours, considering the layout and colours. Please think about reposting once again. And please, think about the feelings of the artists.

What are they thinking, when they not only repost my works, but they also EDIT them as well? I thought that I clearly stated not to, even on pixiv.

I’m glad that my drawing has been liked by people, but I find it scary, if it’s being reposted at another place I have no clue where. Of course, there were some which I deleted immediately from embarrassment.

http://palalife.tumblr.com/post/12479851323/regarding-previous-post-on-why-many-pixiv-artists-do

I once had a friend freaking out b/c she saw her fanart stuffs on tumblr and people writing fic underneath it. She didn’t understand why and what people are doing and almost considering deleting her entire pixiv account b/c that post gets so many notes and she thought she was in trouble.

Now you can see that not all pixiv artists enjoy knowing their art is reposted on other sites. You cant just assume you’re ‘granting their true wish of making their arts acknowledged by much more audience’, even though you’re an artist yourself and you also agree to that. Pixiv artists are mostly from japan, and they have their own culture and mindset that’s different from most of tumblr users, who mostly resides on western/ outside of japan.

I guess that’s my 2 cents regarding why is this ‘asking pixiv artist for reposting permission’ important.
