The Spirit

As she entered the pumpkin-lined room, her eyes immediately were drawn to a pumpkin tucked in the shadows of the room’s far end. There, sitting apart from the other pumpkins, was one of particular oddness. Its shape was almost pear-like, fat bottomed and tapered at its top, long twirling stem grasping out at her, insisting, demanding her attention. She clutched her purse tight to her chest and took a hesitant step, the sensation that was drawing her forward grew stronger yet.

For a moment she tried to exert enough will to take her eyes off the withered and lined surface of the squat gourd, but it was as she was frozen, her pulse raced, and she began to sweat, but she did not blink.

*Step*

*Step*

Slowly, mechanically her feet moved beneath her, sending her lurching frame toward the pumpkin at a ponderous speed. As she inevitably reached closer to the pumpkin, the peril of her tunnel vision became apparent. A dry husk of a tendril, a root-like appendage of the pumpkin, twisted out, wrapping around an ankle and sending her stumbling balance into a flailing fall.

Her arms tried to grab purchase of anything nearby to stop her descent,  but with a singular swift motion, her head slammed into the mass of the foreboding squash. There was a dull splat as the surprisingly soft squash gave way, her head plunged into the wet guts of the pumpkin. She fell to her knees and lifted her now pumpkin adorned head up, everything was dark, and she couldn’t breathe. Her hands scratched at the pumpkin, fingers trying to grip the gooey surface of the half-destroyed pumpkin, but it was too slick, and still tight to her head. Then, she saw a light.

As if in the distance, an ember glimmered. A dancing firelight bounced back and forth, and as her eyes focused in on it, it seemed as if it saw her too. The fire contorted into a shape, a cartoonish and jagged grin of flame that bobbed and cackled as it beheld her. She felt its heat grow as it suddenly surged at her.

Her dress had fallen from her shoulders, and her long straw-colored hair didn’t quite conceal her pert breasts, nor the odd shade of orange they had turned. Her skin was beginning to take on a shade reminiscent of the many pumpkins that surrounded her. Her fingers contorted and stretched into root-like claws, leaves sprouting from her shoulders and neck as she stumbled to her feet. Her boots were torn apart by roots that grew through the straining material, and she found herself momentarily planted in the dirt floor of the shack.

The flame burned her mind, it was so bright, so blisteringly hot, she couldn’t contain it any longer. The hot pressure in her mind was physical as well,as two stems grew out from the sides of her head, gnarled shapes that twisted like curved horns. With a last gasp of resolve, she let go. The pumpkin atop her head seemed to meld into her face for a moment before it began to tear open holes where her eyes and mouth had once been, a glowing fire erupted from the sockets and jagged maw, but they produced no real heat.

The half girl, half pumpkin creature looked down at its vine-covered orange body, cupping its beasts and letting its hand drift across the stiff and sensitive stems that were her nipples.  All of her memories remained, but so too did the strange Halloween spirit that possessed her body, they were at the same time, alien to one another, but a single mind.

Her dress slipped off of her, sliding down her waist and falling to the pile of torn boots below her. Her handbag dropped to the ground, and the straw-haired pumpkingirl walked out into the daylight of the farmyard wearing nothing but a small necklace around her neck.  Her wicked grin and fiery eyes scanned the farm, and a range of ideas floated like the fallen leaves of a tree in fall through her mind. Some of them were devious pranks, tricks of an ingenious and spiteful nature, other ideas were benevolent, mirthful jokes, or even small gifts of a kind. The thing that consumed her every thought was excitement, for tomorrow, was Halloween…

Thirteen Days of Halloween TFs 2: Day3 Pumpkinhead

As she walked through the pumpkin patch she couldn’t help but feel at unease, there was a ominous sense of foreboding that pervaded the area despite the bright sunny day. Maybe it was the fact that the nearest farm was many miles away and that she had just stumbled on the seemingly abandoned patch while walking down a different road than usual on a brisk fall walk. Maybe it was the fact she felt drawn to it, like she couldn’t turn away if she tried. Maybe it was the green vines wrapped around her ankle and snaking their way up her overalls.

The strange immobilizing fog lifted and she became aware of the plants encroaching on her, she tried to pull them away but ended up tripping herself and falling face first into a pumpkin. The flesh of the gourd was softer than she had imagined and the sudden whack of pain from face planting the vegetable never happened. Instead she felt the soft slimy mush of pumpkin guts on her face and the overwhelming smell of pumpkin. She struggled to move and the vines loosened, eventually she was able to free herself enough to try and get her head out of the pumpkin before she suffocated.

She yanked and pulled but the pumpkin was stuck, she couldn’t get the damn thing off, but at least the struggle had managed to knock loose a few chunks so she could see through the holes. it was like she was wearing a mask, she could only see though two triangular holes and breath through a jagged opening, frustrated she yanked on the pumpkin a few more times, but it started to hurt to pull at it.

She reached into her pockets and dug out her phone, eventually taking a photo of herself so she could see just how ridiculous she looked with the damn thing stuck on her head. She wasn’t prepared for what she saw, her lower body looked as normal as every, her ample curves filling out the denim material nicely, but her head, it was gone. From the chest up was just… pumpkin, a big jack-o-lantern with a bright light shining out from the face carved into it sat where her head should be, and there didn’t appear to be anything inside the hollowed out gourd at all. The pumpkin’s face twisted into a frowny carving as she realized that it WAS her head.

Thirteen Days of Halloween TFs Day 12 Pumpkingirl

It’s not a good idea to tell a farmer that they charge too much for their so called “magic pumpkins”, people can get very offended when you accuse them of trying to you rip you off. It’s a extra bad idea when the farmer is actually a warlock. You might just end up getting cursed for doing such a thing. You might end up slowly turning into a half girl half pumpkin each October, and not turning back until the day after Halloween… Next time, just buy the pumpkin…
