A group of people sit and listen to a lady playing a sitar. The setting is that of a Mughal court, with Mughal style architecture in the background and the setting sun visible through the arches.
The artist, Abanindranath Tagore (1871 - 1951) was the pioneer and leading exponent of the Bengal School of Art, which flourished between 1905 and 1920. In his paintings, he sought to counter the influence of Western art as taught in art schools under the British Raj, by modernizing indigenous Moghul and Rajput traditions. His work became so influential that it was eventually accepted and regarded as a national Indian style.

Today’s piece of fully explicit historic erotic art history comes to us from Jodhpur, India, circa 1820-30. (1) In this Rajput style painting attributed to the artist Bhatti Dana (1), a male-female couple couples outdoors on what appears to be a canopied terrace in a beautiful garden, cushioned by lavish pillows and a rug.
The man has opened the front of his ornate garment to allow his cock access to his partner’s pussy as he stands on his knees before her and holds her hands as he penetrates her vaginally. The female partner, meanwhile, has also raised her ornate garments. She is laying on her back and has lifted up her bent legs and hooked her elbows behind her knees to hold them up and to spread them wide to allow her partner full access and to facilitate penetration. This scene is complimented by both partners allowing their expensive finery to flow out in an arc behind each of them, thereby framing them colorfully and artfully in the picture.
