Citadel Shawl

I bought this pattern (Citadel) quite a while ago, when Janina Kallio was having one of her buy two get one free sales. I’m glad I did - while I didn’t have a use for it at the time, as soon as I got this yarn for Christmas I knew it would be a perfect fit. I played a bit of a game of yarn chicken with this one, ending up with only seven grams of yarn left at the end of the shawl.

The yarn is hand-dyed by Riverside Studio, and it is their Merino Sock blend. I would definitely use this yarn again, it is very soft and lovely to work with, and the colours are beautiful. It was tricky trying to capture all of the subtle variegation in the yarn, and I think I didn’t quite do it justice.

I probably could have blocked it more heavily, but I find with shawls like that that no matter how much you block them, within a few wears they pull back quite a bit anyway, so I’d rather get a better sense of what it will actually look like. I anticipate getting a lot of wear out of this shawl, and I’m happy it turned out to be larger than the Antarktis shawl I made several months ago.
