A Sweet Moment

It’s been a while…

It was early morning when the Rose decided to return to the desert. Dressed in black and gold, she arrived in Eastern Thanalan by mid-afternoon where she rode to the small church on the hillside. Around it, headstones lined the trail that led to the dilapidated building a hundred or so yalms away. Mismatched eyes scanned the names on the headstones; She knew where she was headed and looked to them as though greeting old friends. She’d walked past them hundreds of times before, though it had been some time since she’s been back.

She stopped at a headstone by the fence and gently brushed some dirt and dust from the top of it, smiling. The stone was warm from the desert sun beating down on it all day.

“Hey, I know it’s been a while. I’m sorry I haven’t been out recently.” She said softly, taking a seat in the dirt by the tombstone. “Not that being busy is an excuse, but I really have been.” She let out a sigh, guilt beginning to well up in her chest. “Reuki and R’guna are expecting. That ought to be interesting, to say the least. They got married a few years ago now. I haven’t really seen them since.” She frowned as she relaxed some. Talking was helping push the guilt down. “I met someone. A few someones, at first. Some left, a few disappeared. Only one stuck around. I almost wish you could meet him - you’d love him.” She smiled, fingers digging into the dusty soil. “I can just imagine all of the hijinks the two of you would get into. I married him. I thought you should know. I’m also sort of famous now.” She chuckled. “A famous singer, if you’d believe it. And expecting myself!” She exclaimed, excitedly resting a hand on her stomach. She wasn’t showing just yet, but her skin held that gentle maternal glow. “We found out a few weeks ago. We’ve barely been married three months!”

“I suppose I just wanted to talk to you. I haven’t been by in some time and I wanted to make sure you knew that you are by no means forgotten. I cherish the time we had together, and I miss you. Every day.” She said, standing and dusting the dirt from her clothes. “I should head back. It’s a long trip back East. I miss you.” She said softly, kissing her fingertips and pressing it into the nameplate of the headstone. She lingered several moments longer before leaving.

((Fae visiting her first husband, who died tragically when the airship he was aboard was attacked and subsequently crashed. She still visits sometimes, though the visits are becoming more sparse as time goes by.))
