Royai Week Day 1. Triumph
Summary: Roy’s aunt had taken him to a friend’s cabin in the woods for a week one summer, and while exploring the forest he had stumbled upon a family of deer. It hadn’t taken long before he stepped on a twig and sent them running, but he had seen the wild strength in their eyes. Riza reminded him of those deer—a little skittish, but also aloof and tough. A fawn in the body of a ten-year-old girl.
Royai Week 2022 Day 5. Reunion
Roy took a deep sip of his drink. “Was there something you wanted to talk about, Elizabeth?”
Riza smiled ruefully. “Not really. Would it be wrong to say that I just missed you?”
He couldn’t help but notice the way her fingers kept brushing against the cut on her face, the way her eyes darted to the bright lights cast on the walls as she spoke. He wanted to burn the homunculi to death a thousand times over for making his Lieutenant jump at shadows.
Royai Week 2022 Day 4: Saudade
“I’m sorry,” Roy said, once they were alone, “that we can’t have this. What they have.”
“Don’t be sorry,” Riza said softly, cradling the baby against her chest. “We made our choices. Just be happy for your friend.”
Roy reached out a gentle hand and stroked Elicia’s brow. “I can do that.”
Royai Week Day 3. Arrival
Maybe he didn’t really know when. But somehow, he had always known that one day he would have to watch her die. And that it would be his fault.
Royai Week Day 2. Betrayal
“I wish I was dead,” Riza said miserably. “I wish you were dead, too. If I were less of a coward, I would put a bullet in your head and then mine. But I can’t, because I love you and I’m too afraid to know what’s waiting for someone like me on the other side.”
