When programmers invented rubber duck debugging they were right but what they don’t tell you is that this also works for like 90% of other complex intellectual tasks. Nothing solves a problem faster than just trying to explain it to somebody.
This absoLUTELY works for writing too - plot holes, character issues, WIP just not working… talk it out. And if you have no one to talk to, record a voice note to yourself.
For anyone curious what they mean by the rubber duck, rubber duck debuggingis a tactic used by programmers to figure out bugs in the code. To do it, they explain the code, verbally, line by line, to the rubber duck until they find it.
It’s also very useful for writers, and I’ve used it multiple times with rubber ducks, stuffed animals, and my friends.
