Not every fan of the Penumbra Podcast knows that the character of Peter Nureyev is named for real ballet dancer and bisexual icon Rudolf Nureyev. He was sadly lost to AIDs on the 6th of January 1994.
He was a complicated person, an ethnic Tartar, who defected from the Soviet Union to France, spent a great deal of time in the queer scene of New York, and despite his personal flaws was always spoken of warmly by the ballerinas he danced with.
This is my fav little gay tango that I’ve got to share on his anniversary.
