The Lion Will Roar and The Witch WILL ROCK

Second attack of this years artfight, the two dorks here belong to @mickadamzand@inemisol rockin’ himbo and thembo respectively, I like these two’s energies apart but together they make a pretty cool vibe!

that was a really good episode of preacher for the most part except for the whole killing off an entire group of what seemed to be mostly poc for no narratively compelling reason. we know that the boyds aren’t “trash” as they were called in a racially charged scene more than once earlier this season. but the narrative has now treated them as just as disposable as the L’Angelles initially described them. colorblind casting isn’t always good bc you end up with tone-deaf scenarios like this one in which an entire group of characters with tons of narrative potential are cast aside for no good reason at all.

tulip formed a positive relationship with sabina which I thought would ultimately at least bring her some closure considering the death of her brother under horrible circumstances (possibly influenced by the evil emanations of the Tombs themselves), and now that will never happen. Sabina dies with her belief that Jesse is the scum of the earth seemingly confirmed. moreover, I doubt they will go into the mysterious circumstances surrounding her brother Kenny’s death; it seems there will be no justice for him. and they completely dropped the ball in terms of fleshing out the Boyds as characters in a narratively rich universe they could have only added to - who was the mummified Boyd in London Lodge? why were they doing business out of London Lodge? morally, how was their work different than Gran’ma’s? What I wanted to see was Sabina’s family getting the stability and emotional closure they deserved in the wake of the L’Angelles reign and what we got instead was…a whole lot of dead characters of color for literally no reason, with no impact bc they never got to make a substantial contribution to the story.

this show has a pretty bad record when it comes to marginalized characters who aren’t Tulip - it’s killed off nearly every queer-coded character thus far (Fiore and Deblanc, those two Grail operatives last season, the mascots in season 1) and almost every character of color who’s made any kind of contribution to the narrative who isn’t Tulip or Hoover. they need to do better if they really intend to make up for the racism and homophobia of the comics in the same way they tried to give tulip agency and a meaningful narrative. if every other marginalized character in your story is either window dressing or canon fodder, you’re not doing enough.

Ray and Sabina - I’m more fond of the colours in this than anything else.

I decided early on that i wanted to push my female characters having unique noses more, especially ones with bumps. I want to have canonically beautiful characters who aren’t limited to tiny button noses. I’ve always loved noses (though i do understand why they tend to be under detailed in art since they’re really hard to draw)
